Due to me hearing all these things of mini's shouldn't do more than 400 miles in a day and its impossible to do the Lands End to John O Groats run in a day I thought it's time to settle it once and for all.

So whats the most mileage you have done in your mini in one day (24 hours)?

In one 24 hour period, almost 1000 miles, within the UK

But that wern't in a mini, and I would not recommend it to anyone as I was completely shattered and was ill for the next two days....

I once went from London to blackpool and back, leaving at 05-30 and getting back to St. Albans in the evening of the same day. That was in a tuned 850 and before the M6 was open all the way there. With some local mileage whilst there I guess we did 600 miles in total.
When I rallied on UK National rallies in the 60's it was nothing to drive from the London area to mid-Wales, do a 250 mile all-night rally then drive home on the Sunday morning getting home for lunch.
Those were low-geared rally cars as well and very noisy inside.
A friend of mine towed another Mini behind his Mini from Morecambe to Southend-on-Sea with a tow rope one Sunday after the towed car blew its engine on the Morecambe National Rally. That's a 300 mile non-stop (except for fuel) tow.
I did the RAC Revival Rally in a 1991 Cooper 1275 in 2004 and that was 1750 miles in 3 days with overnight breaks from about 10-00 pm until 08-00 am. B****y hard work in a rally Mini.

Took one of my minis from Minehead (Somerset) 25 miles to Junction 25 M5 and then proceeded up M5-M6-M74-mate-M9 and then 20 miles after than to my sisters house. 500 miles ish including getting lost! But thats not the max I did. that was on a 998cc and cost 45 quid!

Oooo competition above I may have to regale my rally story too.....

Mini wise, I think about 300 miles is the most in one day, Rugby to Portsmouth and Back... did that trip to run in the engine, and also found out a 3.7 final drive was not good news on long journeys

I know what you mean. I did Hitchin to Bournemouth and back in a day whilst running in a 1071 cc Cooper 'S' with a 4.1:1 final drive. Got stopped on the M3 by a police car as the cop wanted to have a look at my newly-restored car as he was a Mini enthusiast too.

Minehead to Dover to Calais to Paris To Munich To Prague to Amsterdam to Bruge to Calais To Dover to Minehead To bed.
2500 miles! not in a day but we did do Paris to Prague Via Munich in 24 hours. 850 miles or so with a fair few stops to help out other cars in the rally. (the un reliable reliant Robin)

First time I did The Italian Job we got off the Ferry at Dieppe and drove to within 40 miles of Trento in Italy via Dijon and Geneva - about 1100 miles in a 998cc Minivan - averaged over 50mph and took about 22 hours.

Me Ipswich to Madrid 1,100 miles approx in 21 hrs. Then stopped for a night and carried on driving to Gibraltar.

And the 1976 Mini I was driving didn't miss a beat.

We did well over 500 miles last year in our Mini and that was for the London to Brighton Mini Run. But we did stay overnight in a travelodge (Heston Services London) which splits the journey over 2 days.

We did drive all the way to Penzance/Cornwall in our Mini for a holiday in 1996 and then after a few days we then drove all the way from there to the New Forest in Hampshire.

Either way our Mini never missed a beat on those journeys, but I did find driving all the way home from Brighton (which took us hours just to get out of Brighton) a bit tiring and uncomfortable.

Mainly because both our kids were sitting in the back and so I can't fix the seats right back. But that just helped keep me alert, so Issigonis was right after all.
