Pretty much what it does on the tin. Do you think that a 12" sub is excessive.

It's going to be a 12" JL audio sub: 12W0v2, wired to an orion cobalt CO500.1 amp, so it should drop like west ham out of the prem.

I just dont want it to look silly. Soundwise it shouldn't be a problem as the amp comes with a remote, so it wont be too quiet but also wont be too loud and rattle the car to bits.

Does anyone have any pictures of 12" subs in their boots and what they think of them??

Cheers guys >_<

My wife wanted to keep here boot for the tesco's run so I free-aired a 12" competition 1000w rms pioneer in the parcel shelf bridged to a 2400w lanzar amp bolted to the back of the seat and it sounds excellent, used the original parcelshelf card as a template to make two mdf ones to go either side of the metal original one then bolted them together to make a very rigid base bolted the sub from this from below so the middle top of the rear seat didn't touch speaker, then made boxes from underneath the side 6" compnents so bass didn't push through these then made another frame with cloth stretched over the whole lot so no speakers can be seen. Always wanted to free-air a sub in a mini and glad I did bass is superb.
So in my opinion no

No not excessive it should be good with some decent mids and highs in up front somewhere

also consealing it shouldent be a problem the guys idea above sounds great basicly like turned the boot space into a sub box itself i like it..............

Ive heard this that speakers you choose should depend on what type of music you listen to

I think its about right

12" and above sub size = suff with heavy bass notes like ludacris and exibit - i.e rap stuff

10" are decent all round but have the ability to react faster so good for drum and bass and rock/metal music they tend to work better all round (sound abit more punchy rather than full on bass like 12" subs)

But more to the point I put 2x 12" sub's in mine just to see if they fit and tryed them. I though they were to loud on the lowist settings with the amp turned right down all depends on if you like decent quality music or just want to be load as posible. If you go loud on small budget you will lack on sound quality.

If it was me id go with a half decnet 10" sub with a moderate amp to power it dosent need to be to big 200wat amp would be fine. Then get some decent mids and highs and most of all a good head unit. If it sounds lame out of the head unit it will sound lame out of the most expencive speakers.

If you have a crap headunit no point improving other stuff

sorry if i spell stuff wrong or you cant read it and that i was never good at english and that im a practical person

Yeh mainly r&b rap etc and the amp is turned right down but still shakes car if I want it too lol, only put this in as this was in my Sl (2 subs though) which is of road and remembered as a kid one of my older brothers mates having a mini with a free-air sub and the roof used to bounce, think ours would if it didn't have a webasto.

You don't need a sub to get rattling bass from hip hop. I am (arguably) the most avid listener of hip hop of anyone i've met (apart from my girlfriend, i think  ) and i can get the rattling, powerful bass from Biggie and Big L tracks from my 6x9's, connected to a 200W amp  . My other two 6x9's serve as mid-range/high range.

1 sub in the boot? thats fine, you'll still have lots of boot room. I personally prefer having 2 in the boot and 2 in the car whilst keeping the back seats in. Here's a link to a few other boot installs....
