Anyone know which carb was on an Austin metro 1275?
I just want to know how there is an extra 13 hp on the austin metro 1275A+ then the one in the mayfair 1275...
Obviously the metro manifold is better but there must be more reason for the power increase so i guessed carb? Unless it's a different cam.
All info appreciated as always.

if you are comparing to the mg , the mg had bigger valves in the head , larger carb - hif 44 , and a cam change

Not the MG, the Austin. Hence my use of the phrase Austin Metro.if you are comparing to the mg , the mg had bigger valves in the head , larger carb - hif 44 , and a cam change

I think all metros came with a HIF44.

Yes. And the 60HP+ Metro engines differ from the 53HP 'Mayfair' with: different cam, compresion ratio/pistons with different compresion height, different inlet & exhaust system. The Metro got the mentined 1 3/4" carb and a two branch exhaust manifold (actually close to a 'LCB' design). Mayfair engines got a 1 1/2" carb and single branch manifold. The Metro's inlet manifold (which is still a single piece cast manifold with the exhaust included) is said to have better flow characteristics.
The MG Metro (the Mk1 at least) got a different head with larger valves & ports and a again better single piece alloy inlet manifold and a better air filtration system. And I think a bit more compression due to the 'hot' cam it got.
I've run a 'Mayfair' 1275cc engine with a HIF44 and 'Stage 1' kit for quite some time - and it made a lot of fun! Especialy the low-end torque is fantastic and something I miss since I transformed it into a MG-ish engine.
I never had it on the rollers but I guess it made a good 55-60HP, guessing by the 158km/h (98mph) topspeed
Cheers,
Jan

Austin Metro Vanden Plas had the MG Metro engine, may be where the details come from?
