Hi, i got a 1985 Ritz and the paint is realy lacking from when a prevoius owner done a real bad job.

after reading many articles i decided to use cellulose to spray my mini. as its fairly rare i would like to keep the original Rover Metallic Silver Leaf and maybe spray the roof black.

my questions are;

1. can you get silver leaf metallic celloluse paint and if yes where to?
2. is there any specefic primers or thinners to use and also does it need a coat of clear laqcuer?
3. how much paint would i need to spray the car and the roof?

thanks iin advance

Many places will be able to order you cellulose in, getting the silver leaf should be no issue, if all else fails close to you, try ebay, there are plenty companies who advertise on their. If you are really stuck, I can order it for you here in Edinburgh and send it to you.
Celulouse primer, celulouse thinners and cleeulouse lacquer.

2 litres of paint would be more than enough
3 litres of laquer
2 litres of normal primer
1 litre high build primer
2 x 5 litre Anti bloom thinners (allows you to spray in lower temp)
1 tin Anti silicone (add this to each layer of paint /lacquer just incase)

rememebr all the cellulouse products get mixed 50/50 with thinners, so the final quantity will be 50% more than those above. You will have some spare at the end for touch ups etc.

hi thanks for the reply, but im still confused lol.

i emailed auto paints uk and they said that for the silver leaf i would need to lacquer over basecoat not cellulose. what would you recomend, using cellulose or basecoat? also what is basecoat, because i found that its not cellulose or 2pak.

also what does the anti silicone do? and would i have to use primer on the whole car or just where i need to use primer?

thanks again

Basecoat is not a paint type its the colourcoat before the laquer, simply, the basecoat gives you the colour and the laquer gives you the shine (unless its a solid colour and not metallic).

To be honest if your keeping it the original colour its currently in then I would just prep and spray the basecoat ontop, without primer, if its a different colour at the moment then you will need to primer where your going to be painting, which is the whole car.

Anti-silicone or panel wipe as its more commonly known, gets rid of contaminents on the surface, if you dont use panel wipe before painting then you run the risk of the paint reacting.

Paul.
