Hello there.

Just a quick couple of questions..... if in wrong section.... please remove.
i have recently bought a 1275 engine which i believe is from a mini not a metro. Will i be able 2 fit the 998 engines driveshafts to the 1275 gearbox? Also i have been told a 1275 mini engine will fit straight onto a 998 engines subframe..... is this correct?
sorry if these questions sound stupid..... im new to this and want 2 get my hands dirty :)
Thankyou very much for any replies in advance.

driveshafts are all the same and yes the 1275 will drop straight in the bonly thing you should have to change is your radiator bracket and possible rad top hose

Yes, everything will fit (noting the rad changes pointed out by Slivers501).
The speedo will also read wrong, as the cable drive is optimised for the 998 engine/gearbox combo. You can get this sorted at most Mini friendly garages...

If the gearbox came from a Mini then the speedo drive should be ok, it will be calibrated for the diff and wheel size of the vehicle it came from, so if you are using the same wheel size then you should be ok.

The 'A' series engine and box will swap from vehicle to vehicle with just an engine mount change, they made all the driveshaft ends the same so Allegro fitted Mini and 1300 fitted 1100 and Mini and Allegro, and Metro fitted all etc etc etc. This was when British Leyland took over of course.
Very handy years ago for a cheap engine upgrade, just find an old Van Den Plas Austin 1300 and you were virtually Cooper 'S'.

The carb inlet manifold was at the front on a maestro as the 'A' series engine was in back to front and so the manifold came over the top of the engine so placing the carb at the back. And it was an S.U.
