My poor little clubby needs a new engine :dontgetit: I now need ( yet another ) 1275
Im having trouble finding one localy as a manual - so the question is, could i use an auto
engine instead or are the gearbox bolts spaced differently?

Or is there any internal differences ( crank ect. )

External fittings are not important, i dont mind doing a little fettling/modification/bodging ;)

If anyone could help me out here it would be greatly apreciated. Cheers

Do wait for more answers first, but i think the auto engine has different oil ways. But either way auto's and manual's have different subframes. (Certainly on the earlier cars, pre 74)

It 'can' be used - but very considerable modifications and machining are required! The crank/rods/pistons and cylinder head can be used in your block if that helps.

You can use a manual engine in an auto subframe (its wider) but not the other way round, and no the auto and manual gearboxes are different so cant be swapped on a manual engine or vice versa.

Hi, its more than possible, I was planning on doing my clubby engine a while ago and came across this website, auto to manual block conversion if you click on 'Technical advice' and then down that page click on 'Engine' tells you all about converting the block. If you have acess to a miller etc its an easy job.

Hope that helps

Richard

You would need to be desperate to go through all that machining etc just to use an auto block!
