to put under the dash pointing down into the footwells and operating on the courtesy light circuit so when the door opens they light up
what do you think?
also will it work by wiring up the negative of the LED strips to the door switches will that work and will they still come on when the courtesy light is switched on manualy without additional wiring? if not any ideas on how to do it?

Yup, just give them a constant live, and earth into the door trigger switches. Flick the courtesy light switch and they should come on aswell, I know mine did.

any pictures of urs lit up i want to know what it will look like
I got a video somewhere, I've had a few different types, had UV lights but my mate kicked one and it broke. Then had white LED ones but they were too bright. Then I had these:

Now I've got nothing, not even the courtesy light as my rollcage ate it.
Started soldering up a load of Hyper bright blue LEDs, and will hide these all over the cabin.

which had a light under the door that lit up the area you were about to step into as you got out.
Now there's an idea...

I think it's a class idea to have the footwell light up as the door opens - reminds me of my old Jag
which had a light under the door that lit up the area you were about to step into as you got out.
Now there's an idea...
I'm planning on having a boot light that comes on when you open the boot

I like having them on at night time when driving as they give a nice dim glow.
Not sure how long it will last as I guess the lights aren't designed to be on for hours at time but for now I'm happy

I installed some foot well lights into mine the other day, but I went for a cheap option which seems to work well, I just got 2 courtesy lights from the scrap yard and fixed them under the dash with cable ties (so I didn't have to drill anything
) Then just wired them into a switch.

I had this idea aswell, so today i picked up a £9.99 Cold Cathode tube kit from Maplin... Unfortunately they are blue which im not too keen on, but i will see what it looks like...
I bought a toggle switch aswell (the On-off-On type) so i can have them on independently of the interior light, and also have them turn on when the driver door opens. I also really like the sound of the boot light, might have to look into doing that

Thanks,
Dom
EDIT: Wow i've been a bit silly... i had had a look around the internet and found that the inverters that cold cathode tubes use are quite dangerous... they are incredibly vulnerable to overheating and melting... I will most definetly not be using these in my mini. I shall stick to LED's or the good old fashioned light bulb.
I also found out that these inverters take the 12 volts up to 680, and im not very comforatable with that
