After turning the engine over have you taken any of the spark plugs out. You should be able to smell petrol on them if petrol is getting up to the head. If not check to see in petrol is getting to the carburettor.

Also try lying one of the spark plugs on the cylinder head (on one of the bolts is usually best) with the lead still attach to it and get some one to turn the engine over. You should be able to see if it sparks. If not check that the distributor cap, coil leads and spark plug leads are secure.

It may seem obvious but as it is cold did you use the choke? If you did possibly it has flooded the engine. Just leave it for a bit and then try starting it once the excess fuel has drained away.

This should get you stated in finding the problem.

If its been standing for quite a while in this current weather, then the engine is more than likely damp, it should start eventually, make sure your batterys fully charged.

Damp ignition - take the dizzy cap with leads and rotor arm indoors and clean and dry them thoroughly. Then try again. Is the battery still 'up' or is it barely turning the engine over ?
