well you aint gona meet someone sitting in the house

Ermmmmm I met the "one" by sitting in my house lol. Online dating = an absolute minefield of lunatics, crazy people, perverts and just plain weirdos, however as said I have met the love of my life through it and couldn't be happier. Signed up more as a joke than anything else, got chatting to some very strange people but then on the last day of my subscription and oddly the first day of my boyfriends subscription we got chatting and clicked instantly. Turned out as well, that he had lived less than 10 mins away from my family for most of his life. Just goes to show that you can meet someone anywhere and everywhere, and as the old sayings go:

"you'll meet someone when you stop looking for them", "you'll find someone when you least expect it" etc etc etc

Is 30 mins a day enough? I'm happy to do 30 mins, I've been pushing for burning 300 cals on the exercise bike, but while keeping my heart rate at about 120BPM it takes about 40 mins. If 30 mins is enough, I'll ignore the calories >_<.

I'd say a min of 30 mins, if you can do more that's good but remember not to do too much too quick. At first it will be a while for you to start seeing results, but once it starts it will be a steady progress.

Some people find it useful to keep a fitness diary, log start and finish times, training achieved eg distance run, times etc also include extra factors such as if running outside weather conditions, weight and body measurements and so on. Setting targets as you improve will give you something to aim for, eg cover greater distance in same time while maintaing heart rate limit.
Keeping a diary will give you a good show of your progress and also will be a nice way to see what you started at and how far you have come. I mentioned weight and body measurements, weight is less important especially if you are doing weights aswell; body measuremnts eg waist line will give you a better show of how much excess bulk your shifting.

One thing I'll say that this will be better for you if you think of it in terms of personal effort rather than how much you can lift or how fast you can run. You may run slower than bloke X but as he is a different fitness level you are the one who is achieving more as you are putting in more effort and improving yourself where as bloke X has plateaued and not achieving anything.

if your at uni its like prime hunting ground!
there are so many "clubs" you could join, i say "clubs" as they a basically always an excuse for a *yellow human water* up after any meet.
i was part of the uni's jiu jitsu club for several years and theres always birds joining to learn to defend themselves, when i say always i mean every year without fail.
you got a lot fitter, learnt to defend yourself and nothing makes a friendship blossom like getting out the way of a punch!
just try it im fairly certain nearly every uni has a jiu jitsu club!
thats my tu'pence worth.

i have the best story of meetin a special someone!

it all started about 3 n half years ago, i got a txt one day askin do you want to come to a party in northampton?", not knowin the phone number or anyone in northampton, (im from birmingham originally!) i replied "would be cool, whos this?" to which i got a reply "this is lisa and jodie"

at the time i had a pregnant girlfriend, so polietly declined the offer, but kept in touch as its always good to have new friends! we txt more often and eventually met up n we clicked instantly, but by this time my pregnant girlfriend wasnt happy that id met this girl, and we broke up.

things with lisa got better and better, but eventually my ex had the baby, but turns out the baby wasnt mine, it was her lodgers!!! so a lucky escape there really!

me and lisa have now been together for 3 and a half years, and have a beautiful 19month old daughter called orla, and life couldnt be better!

the moral of this is expect the unexpected, talk to people you dont really know, be yourself and you'll find the right one for you when your least likely to! >_<

good luck with it all!

(and dont bother with gaining muscle, or bulking up, it dont work lol a woman should like you for you, whether it be thin, medium build, athletic, big or chubby, you are who you are, and if they dont like it, then tuff!!! >_< )

Rosie and I met at a mini meet in Kent about 2 and a half years ago...

I suppose the moral to this is that one day you'll meet somebody who you like doing something that you both really enjoy - that's how it happened for us...

Hehe, I'm enjoying reading all this guys >_<.

Just to be clear, I'm trying to lose weight and generally get in shape for my own piece of mind, it's not soley for the sake of meeting someone, although if it means I've got a better chance of getting a girl to know the real me beneath the exterior then that's great too.

Haha, I'm aware Uni is the best time to be going out and meeting girls, this is why I'm trying to sort out how and where I'm going wrong so I can make the best use of my time here at Uni. I've only effectively 50 weeks of it left if you take out holidays and stuff >_<.

I'm just at home sorting out my bedroom so I can move back for the christmas break, making some room for the weights and for the exercise bike. I want to get in to the morning plan of get up, drink some water, 30 mins on the exercise bike, shower, eat, work on Mini (which, assuming I don't need to transport any parts to the garage, a walk to the garage, which is abot 30 mins walk away).

As was earlier stated in the thread, it's good to be able to track progress. So, I'm going to make up an excel spreadsheet that will track my progress, basically a weekly thing where I will weigh myself and measure my waist line, I'm going to pay more attention to the waist measurement than the weight from now on however.

I like how this is migrating to sort of a life style thread as well . Does anyone know a good place to buy loose fit jeans?

I guess I really need to get out and start chasing the things I enjoy then really.

Is anyone going to Stoneleigh Park on Sunday?

I want to go, but it's going to mean coming on my own I think and that's only if Talula (my daily drive Mini) is fixed.

I met my wife at work....

Just be yourself. If your house mate don't go out then leave them at home, sure there are some people you know that go out regularly. If you see a girl you would like to talk to then the old "can I buy you a drink" is a good way to break the ice. Just remember to say it to her face. Or compliment her an her clothes, "Hi i like your dress/jumper/shoes etc" If they want to talk they will. Rejection is something you just have to put up with.

If you see someone during the day, ask them if they would like to go for a coffee.

"Hi, this is going to sound weird as we've just met, but would you like to go for a coffee sometime" again, straight yes or no. If she says yes, don't forget to ask for her number, it always helps.

As for clothes, a nice pair of shoes always helps. If you don't like wearing proper shoes then get something like These Feel like your wearing trainers but still smart enough when worn with a nice pair of boot cut jeans.

I'm no expert but this is all stuff i've learnt along the way. Confidence will build as you get to know more people.
