i think i have found the answer. as you may know its hard to find any 12x7 so i have been looking around and found that atvs (quad bikes and such) comenly use this size. not only thqat but the pcd is the same 4 inch and they look awesome! but are they road legal if i fitted them with road tyres?

12 x 7 atvs

I doubt it because they're not designed to take the weight of a car.

i just thought about that but i dont... know they look pretty strong and these atvs are quite heavy

edit: just had another thought

if atvs do big jumps also they need to be strong for impact. alternatively i could get them strengthened by an engineer, they look great i really want to try them out.... feeling brave.

anyone else like / dislike them or have any idea how strong they could be? or if they could take a mini

ATV's may be relatively heavy but i imagine a mini (with a full tank of petrol) would weigh about four times as much.

I wouldn't try it but if you're willing go ahead >_<

£177 each times 4 = id need a job

but they are really nice >_<
oh i wish

12s are just easy. 10s wont fit without break mods i dont have the cash. at the moment. 13s need arch tubing. so 12 is just easy for now, i like the idea of 14s with a beam from a clio or something.

oh and i want 7 width because i have wide arches

There are some really nice looking 10, 12, 13 and even 14 inch wheels made for golf carts and atv available and may work great for sitting at a show but I wouldn't drive on them. I looked into this quite extensively a while back and here in the States they need to be DOT approved to use on the road, but even if you get around that I spoke with some distributors and reps and they said no way.

I think you need to check your assumptions first...

Tubbing the arches has very little to do with the diameter of the wheel, it is related to the ride height... tubbing involves removing the outer radius of the inner rear arch to allow the vehicle to run lower, this is irrespective of the wheel diameter...

If you mean 13's require the front arches to be cut, then yes this is true, but then again, so do 12x6's, the amount of arch which needs to be cut is dependant upon more things than just the wheel diameter, but more importantly, the wheel width, the wheel offset the size and profile of tyre....

In fact a 13" rim with a 175/50x13 tyre is less than 3mm bigger in diameter than a 12" rim with a 165/60x12 tyre on, and is in fact smaller than a 12" rim with a 145/70x12 tyre....

is a unique idea but like what was said before i think a mini would weigh a lot more.

a working quad can weigh bout 300kg and if thats pulling a trailer it can be double that but them wheels are prob for a sports quad which would only weigh a max of 200kg so not advisable to use them wheels

For the sake of a few hundred quid is it worth the risk?
