Ive got an MPi which has done 130000 miles, however i think the clutch is slipping a bit. It had a new one put in at 60000 miles so after putting all my queries together i think it would be starting to go.

There are a few things that i think mean its slipping however would like some reasurance.

- It judders slightly when pulling away.
- When other people are in the car you have to play the clutch alot to get going.
- Same as above on hills starts on my own.
- Revs lots if accelerator is pressed slightly when clutch is biting and before it is completly engaged.
- Smells alot of clutch after driving when getting out.

Would these above be signs of needed a new one, and are there other tests i could do to find out.

Thanks
Sam

i think the best way to check is pull the handbrake up so you know the car isn't going to move. Put it in first, little bit of revs and let the clutch out. If it stall the clutch is ok but if it keeps reving for a while before stalling then the clutch is gone.

The first signs of clutch slip i have encountered are when a car is in a high gear (4th) and you floor it whilst driving, the revs then increase but speed doesn't.

From what you have said sam i would say it is on its way out.

Yes, from what you've said your clutch has gone.
If revs fluctuate then it can only be clutch slippage.

Ok thanks for the help.

How much would roughly would a new clutch cost, and to be fitted?

Reving a lot before catching is most likely the clutch oil seal worn causing oil to get in making your clutch slip.
By the way, looking at the other synthoms, you need a new clutch plate. while you're at, worth replacing the oil seal too.

mr clutch quoted £130 to do the one on my mini, thats icluding parts and labour, then i realised the gearbox internals had dissapeared, lol, your best bet will be a clutch specialist
