As some of you are far closer to the folks over at Caerbont Automotive Instruments (Smiths), I was wondering if anyone local knew if they were still in business? Or perhaps just off on winter holiday?

I ask because I've been trying to work with a Distributor in the States on ordering a Tachometer for my '71, but they have not responded in over a weeks time.

My distributor, APT Instruments (aka Gauge Guys), has been unsuccessful in getting them to respond so I don't know what's going on.

Hopefully someone out there can shed some light on this.

It's traditional for all OE automotive suppliers in the UK to close for two weeks in summer and two weeks at Christmas, even the production lines stop. It's because they run pretty much continuously for the rest of the year. Try again in the new year.

Okay, I had wondered if that might not be the case. I recall from my time spent in Ireland that they had the same schedule as well.

As far as I know they are still trading. They have just launched two new ranges actually.

I actually received a reply from them (Caerbont) just a moment ago. They're off for winter holiday as of tomorrow, but he indicated he would look into it before they close for the year.

I'm very impressed, their response was prompt and well after the business hours. If you're reading this Neil, a million thanks again.

Yeah Caerbont are still goign we do a lot of stuff for Caerbont at work and go tan order through about 3 weeks ago
