as the title
but also on my HU there's a black wire, a blue wire, a yellow wire and a red wire
black = -
blue = amp switch even though there's no AUX out /facepalm
yellow = ignition live?
red = Constant live?

Get your lives from the fuse box, properly insulated where it passes through holes etc.

Black wire is most likely to be an earth.

I've put = -

Oh yeah I get ya!

The (4-fuse) fusebox on an 80s car is screwed to the bulkhead, on the engine side. It's a small square box with a clip-on black plastic cover. It's an ideal place to get live feeds due to being fused (!) and also because some are live constantly, some only with the ignition switched on. Check out the Haynes for a good description.

Ha ha, yup Haynes explains which fuse supplies what so you'll easily be able to sus it out. Use an existing grommet in the bulkhead to pass the wires through and you won't have to drill any holes.

yeah I'll just pass it through with the main part of the loom as it goes right behind the HU

In the initial post, your colours are correct! :wub:

If the blue is unused, make sure it's insulated so that the copper can't touch the body or earth.

Good luck! :shifty:

Sorry to go against popular trend here but Yellow is constant and Red is switched, goes against logic I know. Blue is used for a power aerial and of course Black is ground. The below diagram shows this.

Connect the Yellow cable to terminal 4, the Red cable to terminal 6 and if you have an Orange cable connect it to terminal 8 (it's for illumination, most HU's don't support it). Make sure you use at least 1mm2 cable and the correct inline fuses (commonly 10A or 15A).
