hello everyone.

I am putting my engine back together and am now confused. In the mini manual it says put thrust washer on first but i dont have one. now im not sure if i have just lost it or i never had one.
Looking at the minispares site they are used to take up any play so surely if you dont have any play you dont need one.

I took pictures when i dismantled it and i cant see one in the picture with the primary gear.

can anyone tell me if you definetly need one?

also has any got some spare springs and studs for a rocker? :)

You will need one, and specific to the size required... what size is the engine, I have a stock of primary thrusts for both small and big bore cranks. You should be looking for a brass coloured ring about 2" in diameter and not much thicker than 1/8"

Hi,
There is a phosphor bronze thrust washer on the end of the crank nose, next goes the big primary gear (which the clutch plate goes on later) after the primary gear is a hardened steel special shaped washer, followed by the u-shaped retainer. There should be backlash here, between the special washer and the primary gear, and it is the different thickness thrust washer (first on the crank) which is changed to adjust this.

Unfortunately I don't have the spares you asked for, but I'm sure someone will be along soon with them

Make sure the oil is not holding it onto the crank. In simple terms it looks like a big bronze washer.

Paul.

Makesure that you fit one and that ......

a) it is the correct type for your crankshaft, ie 998 0r 1275cc type
b) it is the correct thickness for the correct clearance 0.0035 to 0.0065" of clearance
c) it is the correct way around.....

It may also be stuck to the primary gear and in moving it around it could have fallen off ;)

Also the flywheel end is the crank tail as this is the rear of the engine :)
