Hey folks,

Not sure I've ever posted in here but theres a first time for everything!.

Firstly, My mini is a 1981 Mini HL.

I'm trying to change from my current wheels (which are 12inch Revos) to some 10inch Cosmics that I bought on ebay. Finally found a correct sized socket to take the nuts off (the wheel spanner in the boot must have been for some previous wheels as it doesn't fit!). So we jacked it up and undid all the nuts and took the wheel off (front offside) and went to put the cosmic on but it fouls on the caliper!.

Below are the measurements : in cm i'm afraid because we could only find a metric tape measure at the time!

The bit about the inner rim is because it gets smaller 'about' half way down the width of the wheel.

wheel depth (nuts to rim) - 10 and a bit cm
curve to rim - 2.5cm
rim to rim 24cm
inner rim to rim 20.5cm
brake disc radius 102mm

Would the minisport conversion kit : http://www.minisport...nfo_MS2681.html
save all the problems ? I had considered it but the disc seemed small enough :) (forgetting that the caliper might be massive - which it is!)

Thanks! Timmy.. :)

Hopefully I can sort it this week because i'm off work till the 4th (woo!!) :)

Are you trying to put 10's on 8.4 standard discs? You have to use cooper s disc brakes which the conversion kit does. Dan :)

well.. according to my measurements the disc is 7.9inch ish? And.. will the cooper s calipers fit in the gap ? will they not be too wide? (with the whole step in the inner of the wheel)

What's the diameter of you brake discs? :)
8.4" (21.3cm), 7.9" (20.6cm) or 7.5" (19.5cm)? :)

[edit] 7.9"... So I guess you have alloy calipers with 4 pistons fitted?
Those clear only some few wheels. If you'r selling them,
I guess you'll earn enough to finance the Cooper 'S' 7.5" brake.

If you have the standard 8.4 inch factory fit discs then 10" wheels will not fit.

The conversion kit you have identified should solve the problem for you and be fairly straighforward to fit.

Might be worth double checking with Minisport before you part with your cash as when I purchased my kit (4 pot caliper conversion) they said not all 10" wheels go over them.

This may only apply to the 4 pot kit but best to check.

One of the mini mags did a feature on this kit not that long ago. May be worth seeing of you can find a copy of the article as it will no doubt help when you come to do the work.

Good luck

Steve

I would ddoubly check the size of your disk, and your calipers, sounds like your have the standard 8.4" calipers fitted... Possibly with smaller disks for some random reason.

I think certain 10" wheels will fit over 8.4" discs but most wont, so either need the smaller 7.5" disc setup or find out which 10" wheels will fit.

Not that this is much help but the calipers were slightly golden coloured (and dirty!) with BP on them.

Has anyone got any size of the calipers in the kit? (i'm not sure how quick minisport would be at replying espicially because its sunday and a bankholiday tomorrow!)

(much appreciating the comments above!)

Timmy

EDIT: To Tomf above.. which bit of the caliper would I be measuring? width?

I think you'll find that to be AP not BP, which tends to suggest you have std 8.4's or at least standard callipers... With 7.9's you will have 4 pot calipers, either alloy or modified MG metro ones, I don't think anyone does 2 pot callipers which fit on 7.9's

In which case your wheels will not fit and you'll need to change at least your callipers. and probably disks.

ps its not the disks which is the problem it's the callipers which need to fit round them...

No im prety sure there not as fiesta calipers dont have any writing on them as far as i can remember. Where as standard 8.4" calipers have AP written very obviously...

As for price, just calipers and disks dont really fetch much maybe £30....
