Yes its a good idear, go to a motor spares store and get yourself 2 bottles of engine flushing oil, before you do your service empty 1 bottle into engine and take car for a 20 minute drive then drain old oil (very hot) and replace filter and do service at this point, refill engine with cheap oil and 2nd bottle flushing oil take car for another 20 minute drive and drain oil again (very hot) and then fill with castrolGTX or similar top quality oil ............Job done..............

do not use engine flush.
if anything use some diesel oil for a couple of days and then change it.

Im am not always a fan of engine flush myself. Especially on an old engine. You could flush out crap that is pluggin a seal or bits of debris could block an oil way slightly etc.

Its a long shot i know, but you may regret it. I know its a different engine totally, but a few friends with mk2 golf gtis have had endless problem with engine flush due the the hydraulic tappets, not the same in a mini of course but worth thinking about.

I just fill my Mini up with cheap oil first, let it idle/tick over until the engine is up to normal temperature and then dump it and fill up with good quality oil.

Seems to work okay for me.

gets alsorts into the oil/engine and can then lead to problems/knackered engine
