Hi all always loved the mini and have nearly bought one a few times as projects but time and cash always stood in the way. I will hopefully have 2.5k maybe abit more in a few months and would want to buy a nice fast mini. Yes i know im not going to get something rapid but have seen a few metro turbo'd engine minis and supercharger oh even 1380 engined minis that say running around 120bhp. Want something i can drive straight away thats fun and fast and can change bits as i go if i want but really want a nice standered looking car.

First off is that posiable with those engines
Secondly which engine would be best as dont want to start spending loads on mechanical parts
Thirdly (is that a word?) how quick is that sort of bhp in a mini as want something fun and can keep up with or embarass the more modern hot hatches

Lots to get through i know, i have drove a 2 litlle standered minis, well had suspension u/g's and put a smile on my face every time i drove them felt really nippy but just did not have enough when it came to it.

Thanks

correct me if im wrong anyone.

a 998cc mini engine 0-60 is around 18 seconds?

to be honest, top speed is irelivent, as your only aloud to go 70 tops, i care more about acceleration... so 0-60 times are key to me :D

120bhp in a Mini is pretty easy with forced induction, but there are quite a few other options that will embarrass supercars let alone the odd Saxo.

Welcome!

As said above really i myself care more about acceleration more than top end...

2.5K is a good budget should be able to pick something nice for that

Happy hunting

Yep 0-60 is more important to me too just dont too much about minis just been trying to read as much as i can on here in past 40mins or so and my head just cant take it all in that quick lol. So could i get a quick one for 2.5k+ and worry about little things like interior and stuff later just want something quick and ready to go then do things when i have more time.

i like your thinking... i want it quick, interior doesnt matter :D

what im doing is restoring a mini, then modding it...(as i got it for christmas i dont know how much it was) but you can probebly start with a mini with a stage one kit fitted for that budget, as iv seen restord minis for about 2k. or maybe you should get a cheaper mini with a poorer engine, and spend the extra cash on a bigger engine.. either way its gunna look good, and go like stink !!

as before, correct me if im wrong, im new too  ^^

Thats my thinkin but i have seen a few metro turbo'd minis and a 1380 for sale and thought hay why not as want somethink quick and drivable now, just wondered how quick these sort of engened cars are. Is 100+bhp that quick in a mini as i have been reading alot want to smoke vts's but i want somethink a bit quicker than that somthink that would worry newer hot hatches.

Dont want to really buy a cheap car then start looking at engine swaps as i really dont have time and dont think i have the skills to do a full swap lol

minis arent the quickest but are much more fun too drive and handle quite well too, i dont think there is a driving experience like a mini.

my mates got a daihatsu charade gtti 1.0L turbo it absolutely flies something like 100 bhp stock cheap insurance because its a 1.0L too

unless your old then you can get bigger engines affordably

insurance is fine to be fair im 27 and 28 in may starting to feel old or maybe a very early mid life crises. I know there fun like i said have drove a couple a good few years ago and it really did put a smile on my face, especially on bumpy roads felt every bump felt like it was jumping every where plus all the flashing lights and waves i got from other owners.
I just love old cars and want something that is quick without buying something new or really daft power like an evo and get killed on insurance. Just want to be sat in my litlle mini and just shock people at lights. (yep early mid life crisis)

Just buy the best condition car you can for your money. Minis have a lot more to offer than traffic light drag racing.

great motor these, there is one here in NZ still on factory ecu and motor just got a bigger turbo that is pushing 200bhp and does 12 sec quaters, awesome swap for a mini too as the bertone innos used this motor, I used the deisel version of this in Frankenvan
