Hi guys

I've heard a rhumour that there is a company out there somewhere that does heated rear screens for the standard clubman estate "barn doors."

My question is brief - Who sells them and where can I get them?

Cheers

Tom

I hadn't heard of any for the CE doors but I know there is a company making them in limited runs for Pickups - I'll see if I can find the details.....

Found it via the minipickup.org forum - the company is Uroglas and in one of the posts in this thread there is mention of

"4043CLH/4044CLH AUSTIN MINI COUNTRYMAN HRW CL 65 59 53 47 43 38 35 15" with the numbers on the right indicating pricing dependant on numbers ordered - i.e. 1 = £65, 3 = £59, 5 = £53, 10 = £47, 20 = £43, 50 = £38, 100 = £35 and P&P is £15

which sounds hopeful, although the post is over 2 years ago! May be worth contacting them directly to see if they are still available. I may well be interested in a set although it's not a priority at the moment - need to get rid of the rust and fit the Vauxhall engine first!

Smiths used to sell a special 2-part version of their self-adhesive silver foil element rear window heaters for Minivans, Travellers and Clubman Estates in the 1970's.............the saloon version which was much more common occcasionally turn up for sale on ebay as a period accessory.

Update...

For anybody who's interested, i've had a reply from the company...

Hi Tom,

Thanks for your enquiry.

We did indeed produce these parts some years ago but have not stocked them for some time now. It would be possible to have some more manufactured. Prices are as below:

10 pairs - £139.00 each + VAT
25 pairs - £111.00 each + VAT

Delivery free to one UK mainland address.
Lead time 8-10 weeks approx.

These glasses are laminated, fine wire heated, as you might find in a heated windscreen, so the internal elements are barely visible.

Is anybody interested? perhaps I could arrange a group buy?

Cheers

Tom

That's a fair old price hike! I won't be able to commit at those prices at the moment, unfortunately - if they were around the £60-£70 mark like they used to be I'd have been extremely tempted. Have to see how many numbers come up this weekend - if past form is anything to go by it'll be 1 or 2 if I'm lucky!

Clive - No problem, i'll be in touch if I hear anything else.
Jayare - Unfortunately, that's seems to be what these kind of things cost these days. It's not a regular production item anymore as you know, and these custom jobs must cost quite a bit to manufacture.

Cheers

I fully understand that, although I'm still a little surprised that they have gone up quite so much - I'm on the second rebuild of my Estate now and know exactly how difficult and/or expensive parts for them can be. I'm only just starting this rebuild so heated windows aren't really that high on the priority list right now - wings, floors and Vauxhall bits are more important at the moment. I'll certainly put the wiring in for them when I do the loom though - just in case!

Have you thought about putting this up on the Clubman Estate Register forum to get more takers? There's also a Minivan forum on Yuku - here but I've never registered to see if there are many people on there. Also may be worth contacting someone like Minispares, Moss or Somerford to see if they will bump up the order - hopefully if enough people can commit I may even be able to afford some!
