My 1993 Mayfair sounded rough when i first got it as it had been stood for months being started every so often.

I gave it a full service, stuck a new exhaust on and gave it a good run. Sounds great now!

But when i mean good run i dont mean a trip to the shops. I mean a good few motorway miles to clear everything out!

Give it a go and see how you get on.

sorted it now. it was a faulty spark plug, got a new one this morning and the beast is back.

Don't just fit ONE plug - treat it to a new set!

It was knackered, no spark at all. Not going to buy more plugs as they where only replaced a couple of months ago!

Have to say i always fit NGK as they seem to be the most reliable. I used Boche until they kept failing on me.

What do you use then?

NEVER NGKs - after a long time-wasting experience on a mates 'non starting' MGB! Fitted an old set of Champs - it started immediately.

what wrong with ngks bmcecosse? I used to use bosch, but they kept getting sooted up, tried champion, they gave me trouble starting it from cold, and now i only use ngks, never had any problems with them and am not going to try anything else again.

Just out of interest is it a higher number for a hotter plug, and a lower number for a colder plug?

I have never used champs, but the boche ones have failed on me twice very quickly which worked out very expensive.

I use NGK in all 3 of our cars, they work fine and they seem to last! If they geet sooty, takem them out and go over them lightly with a wire brush - as good as new!
