Nice selection of parts! :(
Makes me want to get a webber on mine, still think you should go for a more lairy cam to make the most of the engine, im using a sw10/286 and in my 998 and driving it everyday, once it gets past 3k you wont regret it espically if you have everything lightend and balenced. IMO theres to much hype about big cams being undrivable around town, but its your engine though

Update!!!!

Right, over the last couple of weeks the crank, rods, flywheel and pistons have been away at Saunders Engineering down the road from me, to have the crank polished, all balanced and the pistons decked by 18thou to be flush with the top of the block.

Was all finished at the start of the week, so this morning I spent afew hours assembling it all...

Don't know if you know about these but Martin at MRA Minis does special head gaskets for 12G940 onto small bore block.

MRA Minis Head Gasket

It was specially designed (for my Mini :) ) to ensure that the edges of the gasket don't sit over the waterways of the block.

Looking great mate very impressed.
Might have to have a word with saunders about some work in the future.
Look forward to seeing the final result.

Ah fair enough, hadn't really given the head gasket much thought at the moment, but yeh I had seen that.. will have a chat with him  thanks for that!

Make sure before you drop anything off at Saunders you have a healthy bank balance... ended up being about twice what I thought it would cost.. very good work! but very expensive!

Im looking forward to it too :)

Some nice details in that build - I like the centre main strap but would advise using hardened washers under the bolts. I'd also check your cam sprocket has clearance on those three cap heads, they look to sit quite proud.

The alloy front plates are also available on ebay from a chap in the states who first came up with the idea - cheaper than MED too even posted from overseas.

All of that kit looks amazing. Well impressed by the project so far, its going to be a rocket when you fit it, I can't believe I didn't notice your engine build page sooner! Keep up the good work, looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Hey
Thanks very much for the comments.
I had the main strap made by my engineer as the previous one I had didn't have locator's for the trusts.. not good! just took it back to him today to have the locator's machined down by 1mm either side as they came very close to the crank!
Ah yes.. Washers, will do! thanks for that.

Honestly looking back through my receipts, I did actually by the front plate through ebay from that guy and not MED ( Iv brought too much to remember! :( ) Can say that its very good quality! now needs abit of a clean as it has oily marks on it.

The cap head bolts for the cam sprocket were just thrown on there to hold it down before the gasket sealant dried, but I do have some of the original flat bolts to go in there.

You are very observant!

Ah, I have one coming from MED anyway, thought I would get them to stick one in with all the engine bits which should be with me soon :)

Look forward to seeing more progress

Make sure the washers are hardened - normal plain washers will simply deform under the head of the bolt and not provide a reliable clamping force. And well done for using decent grade bolts rather than the crappy 3 dash grade stuff that most suppliers send out (apart from MiniSpares who I believe not supply the correct grade).

Certainly looks like this will be a good, solid built motor.

Yeh, Im just looking for hardened washers now, any idea where to get them from?

I called around lots of different companies to see what main bolts they all use and everyone said 'the standard ones are fine' but I just didnt quite believe them, so found someone who builds se7en's engines and he sent me these  he was very helpful...
