Can anyone tell me where's the best place to buy metal pressed number plates. I have a 1975 mini and I'm looking to replace the plastic plates with white/ yellow metal plates.

I've seen posts on the forum before but for the life of me I cant find them using the search engine thingy.

Can anyone help or recommend a company?

Cheers :geek:

Quick ebay search turned up THESE, seem to be the cheapest ones there though!

Bear in mind they are most likely illegal for road use due to reflective properties :geek:

Those pressed ones are great, but not strictly correct if you were looking for a concours finish for your 1975 car.

Mine still has the (slightly battered) originals and they have pressed aluminium bases, with raised plastic (3D stylee) letters, which are correct for a 70s/ early 80s car. Unfortunatley, I'm not sure you can get the plastic, rivetted-on letters any more!

There was a bloke at Enfield who was willing to do them for me but after looking at his prices I'd rather stick with pressed metal ones!

That's a shame- probably because they are labour intensive to do, mark out the ally, drill the correct holes etc. Just one hole out of line and it would look rubbish lol. It's no wonder they went over to plastic, computer-made plates..

Was a real shame! Wanted some for the Minor and the Consul :geek: But then I guess if your going down the concours route you'd pay what people ask for them?

Byjesus your right, the car would have had the raised plastic lettered plates on it. Anyone know where I can get them. I'm sure I've seen a post on here before about those plates but cant find them.

I've looked on ebay but some of them dont look right. Thanks for all the help.

Cant beleive I forgot about raised lettered plates doh!

I'm going to get some of the yellow a white ones i think, i have a 93 and was considering black and white, but not sure whether the risks are worth it, anyone else done this and got away with it? Also to add, if you want pressed plates but want to stay 100% within the law then dubmeister can sell you some or tell you where you can get some in your area, found here. :geek:

About the legality of the white and yellow plates and them being reflective, I bought some with my Minis name on for the shows and the backgound is reflective, so im guessing theyre legal, but im not 100%. (The one in my display picture actually!)

As for the raised letter plates, I think Jackman on here got some for his Mini. :D

Quite a few people do.

I had some on my 2003 VW Caravelle (looked ace as the van was totally black too) but I was pulled at Heathrow Airport and handed a lovely £60 fine (stupid thing was I had the originals in the boot! The law needs your money it seems)

Your running the risk although classic cars are usually turned a blind eye too (I have pressed ally ones with a D sign on it on the Passat - the fine used to be £30 but last year it was raised :D )
