I am about to change my accelerator cable.

2 questions.........

Reading the haynes 4B.4 says i need to remove the ECU, is this a due to access? My mini is LHD and therefore if it were due to access it wouldnt matter. Anyone know?

Also it says "remove the ecu as described Section 13" now section 13 about removing the throttle body! is this just a miss print or does it mean remove the throttle body.

Section 30 is about removing the ecu.

This is a real pain in the "****" as you buy the book for clarification and instructions not to increase confusion!!

Cheers

The removal of the ECU was simply to facilitate access to the throttle cable at the bulkhead. Left hand drive, no need to wory about that. There should be no need to remove the injection manifold either.

It will be tight though to get to the throttle cable at the bulkhead without removing something, the radiator being the easiest bet if you have to.

Just make sure that the nipple on the end of the outer cable is removed, it may come off and require removal with pliers. The new cable should have a considerable legnth to wrap round the engine bay. If it is only about 18" long, it is a right hand drive cable.

Correctly adjust the throttle cable lost motion linkage as described in the haynes manual and the pinned help topic.

It might not help in your case but I just leave the old outer cable in place and shove a new inner cable in.

Will see how it goes!

Dont be daft!

If you have a sticking throttle, the last thing you should be doing is leaving the old outer cable there! Replace the whole thing ;D

Anyways, you can only replace the whole cable on an SPi as there are nipples on both ends of the cable :)

My throttle cable snapped on my mpi (was kinda showing off buy stomping on the throttle) anyways, I was being lazy and so used my dads RAC cover, luckily the guy had owned 7 minis in his life, all he did was take out the old cable and slide in the new one, all he has to do was remove the air filter for access.
