Hey everyone, I am researching replacement camshafts for my 1989 998cc A+ engine as one of the lobes is scored, but I am kind of confused... Are standard 1275 and 998cc camshafts totally interchangeable? I have been told that a metro cam would be a good move, but do I need to find one from a 998cc engine or will a 1275 one be fine?

They are all interchangeable - only the MG Metro cam is significantly better - some 1275 cams are actually softer than the one in your 998. You must of course match up cams and oil pumps - but in recent years they are all 'spade' drive.

They're the same, only issue is the oil pump drive

As said, they only limiting factor you have is which cam would be suited to your engine, thats if you was going for an upgrade cam.
