Can anyone advise what the maximum bore size can be forstandard rings of a 1275 engine -I have just brought an engine and will be honing the bores out and would like to how far can you go before a standard ring is no good and a rebore is required.I have measured the bore and it is standard at 70.61 mm but once the bore is clean it will be slightly bigger, but how much can i go.

Using my basic finger in the air trick... I measure bores by putting a new ring down them and checking the gap, but if my maths is correct....

Standard bore is 2.78 inches, and a new top ring should have a gap of 11 to 16 thou'

therefore the circumference of a std bore is 8.737", using the above range of 5 thou, a new ring would be useless when the bore reaches 8.742" in circumference or the bore 0.0026" oversize.... or 70.679mm
