Hi all.. yet another problem with our 89 designer.

Took it for a spin tonight and suddenly after coming off the dual carriageway i couldnt shift down, it felt like there was only pressue in the last 3rd of the clutch pedals travel. Managed to get it into 2nd and drive (slowly) home. It takes no effort at all to push the pedal down and doesnt appear to be operating the clutch..
Has anyone ever had this problem?

check for hydraulic leaks in the clutch system

Thanks, Just had a look. Nothing obvious, could something (seals etc) have gone inside the cylinders without leaking?

slave clyinder may have gave up the ghost... can you get someone to press the clutch pedal down and see if you have full travel on the arm on the end of the flywheel casing... see if the throwout nut is touching the casing at the end..

Theres hardly any movement in the clutch arm. Is the slave the most likely culprit? Can you rebuild them? Cheers!

you can get a rebuild kit for them but you can get a new slave cylinder for about £20, when mine went i thought i might aswell just replace rather than rebuild

it is most likely the culprit though

edit: before replacing though, check that the bleed screw hasnt come loose, you can normally see where the leak etc is because the fluid will ruin the paint where it has dripped

no point there only around £25 for a new one but before you buy one just try bleeding the clutch first incase it may have got air in the system.. if that doesnt work then id try a new slave cylinder.. make sure you buy the right one for your clutch. verto or pre verto...
