Hi there,
The mini that i currently have came with the stock head unit and no speakers...
I believe that it originally had the surface mounted rear speakers...
I've had a look around the interwebs but I havent been able to find much... What i have found is the Pioneer TS-44... It looks perfect for what I need, although i'm not sure what SQ would be like... also i think they are a little expensive for what they are...

Does anyone have any suggestions for rear speakers? I'd rather not have 6x9's under the seats, and i'd also rather not have to drill out my rear shelf...

Thankyou,
Dom

Any set of 5.25" speakers will fit the standard holes (you might have to redrill the mounting screw holes) or you can make your own spacers and fit a set of 6.5's.

Take a look at my project thread on page 5 for an idea of what you can achieve with a little imagination and lots of patience.

Thankyou very much for that,
I checked your project's page 5 and what you have done seems amazing...
Unfortunately i would have no hope in hell of being able to achieve anything like that :techsupport:
I might have to resort to the speakers underneath the rear seats.
As a side note, would sound quality be affected too much if the speakers mounted unearneath the rear seats were covered in a fairly thin peice of fabric/mesh?
This would be to make them "invisible" but i'm not sure if it would work, although i guess dust covers for other speakers work just fine...]

Thanks again,
Dom.

generally speaking its pretty difficult to see speakers that are under the rear seats,
there isnt much light down there and you dont tend to look there,
if they are black and not "blinged" that may help!

As you can see from mine the speaker covers are actually the standard ones that came with the speakers but covered with a black material normally used to cover speakers in the home etc. I just used a thin layer of spray glue and voila!
What I have done isn't that hard it just takes time, anyone can achieve something like this. If you dont want to go through that much trouble then just mount some 5.25's in the parcel tray, you would only have to drill 6 screw holes in total to mount them there. To mount some 6.5's simply make some spacer rings from 12-15mm MDF (or layer thinner stuff) and paint them black (or what ever colour your tray is) and mount the speakers on that.

I would love to just pop them in the parcel tray as drilling a few holes isnt very hard (even i could do that :techsupport:), but there isnt an actual hole for the speaker itself... there is just a slot for the wire to poke through... Thats why i guessed that the speakers used to probably be mounted in some kind of plastic "box" and sat on the parcel tray (as opposed to being sunk into it).

And @maggies_minder, thankyou for that... I think i might look into doing it that way. Might even be able to get a sub or 2 in there O_O although i dont want to be running any amps... so maybe not :D

Thanks,
Dom
