I am currently doing a nut and bolt restoration on my Mini Thirty and adding some big personalisations. I have changed the engine from 998 to 1275. I have the engine numbers and receipts of purchasing the engine and sending them all off to the DVLA.
Once these details have changed and i take out insurance on the vehicle will i still have to declare the engine change to them or will it already be written down when I give them my Registration Number? I know when you take out insurance they recover all the information of your car from the dvla from just using your number but unsure whether the engine change will be listed!
Anyone done the same?
Thanks

They told me that any change of engine, if the cc is altered is considered a modification and will need to be declared, whether the DVLA are aware of it or not.
Tell them everything!
If the worst comes to the worst and you need to claim and they find something you haven't told them, then they won't pay out.

But when i insured it i explained to AF that the engine was no longer 1275, moreover a 1330, fast road/track cam, weber etc and they were fine with it. My insurance was around £210 fully comp, like for like but with restricted mileage. This suited me fine as it is just a wekkend toy

As above - better to be totally honest with insurance co's. With regard to DVLA, just make sure they know so that the car is in the correct tax bracket

On my logbook the car is a 1275 - originally a 998 auto.

What insurance company are you with? I looked into the tax class thing too and if your car is registered before 2001 then the tax class only changes when you go above 1549cc or something like that!

I'm with Adrian Flux, classic policy and im 29 with 2 other cars!
I would still register the engine with DVLA, that way it shows as a 1275 and makes you more legit. I simply sent the logbook back with the new engine number and they returned it no questions.
Also if you ever sell it you can explain a step to 1330 etc without looking suspect. explaining a 998 on the logbook but 1330 in the bay is a bit more difficult to convince.
Just my personal opinion.

The answers to insurance questions are always, ASK YOUR INSURER. All companies are different, everyone's circumstances are different. Your insurance is unique to you. Declare everything and ask your insurer, be honest with them.
