mg metro engine unmodified in a mini city engine rebored plus 20 tho a year ago and at the same time a second hand second gear was fitted (crunching when changing into second )along with new bearings and baulk rings the gearbox worked fine after this and selected all gears without a crunch
has anyone got a suggestion on what could be wrong with my gearbox /clutch .
first syptom is on overun the engine feels like it is rocking about and if you have your foot on the clutch pedal taking up the slack you can feel the pedal rise and fall iin time with the apparent engine rock .
now a noise has developed during overun the is a whine that resonates thro the gear stick ,sounds like a straight cut gear box !
the engine mounts are all ok as are the tie bars and subframe to car mounts i have even fitted an extra tiebar from thermo housing to bulkhead ,grabbing the rocker cover there is no engine rock apparent ,it really is solid .
the gears can be selected fine and when accelerating the gearbox sounds ok ,sometimes you can hear a metallic ringing noise (clutch release bearing ?)
the pedal rising and falling is puzzling as its almost like some component is running out of true and the movement is transferring through the slave cylinder and passing to the master cylinder .
a mechanic at a local mini specalist suggested it could be one of the arms on the clutch spring is bent .
thanks all
