you type alot :) it hurts my eyes

but as dan was saying, as one of the folk who regualy goes to all the shows if you reconise the car go and introduce yourself :) i remember this weekend for example at bingly it should be relitivly easy to spot folk, theres a meet for a photograph at a set time and some will have name badges cleverly crafted by one of our staff members :P

:D Yeah, I do type alot. Only cause I find it easier to be precise in my point. I like lots of back story. You get to truly know a person when you know more about the story behind them. Anyhow, I saw your car at Stoneleigh but I didn't see anyone around when I was over there. I did talk to someone from your club....I can't remember his name, he looked like Frodo Baggins though if that helps. He was a nice kid with a newer Red SPi 1275 Mini, he was telling me and my buddy Tom about his fuel pump and how he was going to fit a fuel pressure regulator on it. I met Darkscamp but I kinda had the feeling he was too busy. I met Sean from Minus Minis and he was really cool, very polite. I met Shiftyseamus, very cool chap....he is very much full of energy that shifty! I saw Martin there, we went outside and smoked a "fag" together and generally chatted. I met some kid with a Orange Clubby, didn't talk too much though. Once I get Dexter setup the way I want him I'll have a better chance to go to these shows and meet more people. I look forward to it!

I think his car was an SPi and he converted to carbs. He was a nice kid though.

Yeah, we've been to the states a few times and hired a car to do a big roadtrip with. You see so much more than the average tourist just going to florida/new yourk/california. Its always been late august when we were there though so we missed the autumn. We have a very close friend who lives in PA, he normally comes to visit us once a year. He normally bags a couple of deer each year, he once had one jump into his soft top MG on the interstate :D

ToD, I hope you'll find some better people in the UK. I'm quite surprised at the rudeness of some people with regards to you being American. A friend of mine is American, she runs a post office down my way in Kent. She's been living here permanently for about 5 years now, and I've never heard of her getting any abuse because of her accent, not in the way you've experienced. Any comment that is made about it is in good jest. I hope to meet you at some shows this year. This will be my first proper show season so I haven't met many people either.

That is quite a trip! When we were still stationed in Georgia we used to go back to Titusville every year. It would take me around 16 hours to drive 1000 miles, at first I didn't like the road trip but I started to. One of my older cousins from Titusville has a soft top MG, it is Orange. His name is Randy, I plan on driving my Mini over to his house once I get it back there....he really digs the British cars. I went deer hunting once but had no luck....I always did better hitting them with my truck! I almost got side swiped by a bunch of deer one night riding my Yamaha Banshee on a back road....that would have probably killed me as I was going about 70MPH, luckily I swerved and missed the whole group. The deer are so huge in size and numbers that they close the schools down on the first day of deer season. We have to deer hunt or the numbers get too high. They are dangerous! Back before three wheelers (google "Honda 200X") were outlawed my cousin Dave stopped over at my house to give my older sister a ride on his buddies 200X. They went down the dirt road beside my house and a deer had jumped off the bank (startled by the sound) and kicked my sister in the head. Their hooves are REALLY sharp and it cracked her skull wide open. She fell off and rolled into the ditch where rocks and such were running into her skull. Dave lost control and fell off too and the impact shattered his right leg from the knee down. She almost died cause of that doe!

I have met some really nice people since being here. Not all of the people I mentioned in my post were British, some of those encounters happened in the states. Our landlord is American, he used to work for Nokia and has retired here. Really nice guy. I look forward to going to some shows with Dexter, I'm currently looking into having his shell soda blasted so I can refinish him properly. I've got a pretty decent build planned, just want to get his shell clean prior to starting! Then we'll be hitting some shows! My friend Tom is planning on getting one of those Minus pickup shells when he gets back from the sandbox so we will have that build as well. Hope to see more TMF people in the near future!

I've gotten nothing but positive feedback from my Mini over here in the States. Other than good natured jesting about it's size and how surprising it is that I fit in it, it's all good things. Actually now that I think about it, most people are at a loss for words when they see it.

Then again I keep it hidden away in a garage and only take it out on nice days, so not a lot of people have seen it yet.

Well, this all really depends on where you live. Like I said, I am from Titusville Pennsylvania. My town is FULL of rednecks....the kind of guys that wear Carhartt jackets that smell like chain saw oil, have deer hunting/fishing licenses hanging of their hats that say "Mack Trucks". They drive old rusted out Ford, Chevy or Dodge trucks....nothing less than 3/4 Ton 4x4s that have gun racks inside the cabs holding two 30-06s and a couple shotguns.....some of these guys will even have a dead deer in the bed of the truck as it is sitting outside the bar. The kind of guys that go into a bar and beat each other with pool sticks. There is no VW,Ricer,or Bini scene in my hometown. The only scene is 4x4s or BMX and during the summer the occasional Muscle Car. We're talking the kind of guys that have wooden bats in their vehicles for the sole purpose of beating Possums to death (or cats).

To make matters worse, I am 29 and when I get back I will be 31 so everyone I used to hang out with "downtown" will be completely gone. I'll have the younger kids that have taken our places screaming stuff at me. Some people might find it cool sure (My Mini), but when I am at home I like to go to the "Country Fair" gas station and have coffee with my Dad late at night, around 2AM....this is bad because that is last call for all the bars and all the drunks AND cops go to Country Fair at the same time.

The drunks will go there to have fresh sub sandwiches made and get junk food and munchies. Sometimes some nasty, mean drunks show up and they scream random crap, and they drive like idiots in the parking lot. Everyone here on TMF knows how invisible a Mini is when it is parked between two cars that are longer....you don't even know it is there until you pull up on it. I'm hoping it don't get damaged cause no one will be expecting a car that small. Also, the cops are for SURE going to mess with me as it will be right hand drive, British plates, extremely small etc....they aren't going to know what it is so they are bound to pull me over to harass me about it. I guess I just REALLY know my town, I roamed it extensively as a young man with my friends and some of them would do some crazy stuff.

Sorry, I didn't realize you guys didn't like detail. I can try to only get half my point across if that makes it easier. Lol. What is wrong with reading? If you guys can read Haynes manuals cover to cover than surely you can handle a quick post from me!

I love detail, just reading gets boring after a while. No by all means carry on :D Just I'll read the first paragraph to get the idea of things... then read the next post. :) Keep it up :D

Well if you love Minis, then you'll keep one and keep it out of the way for safety and only use it when appropriate.

Or if you're more bothered by the attitudes of the retarded people you may encounter and get fed up with all the questions and hassle, then perhaps it'd be best to give Minis a rest.

To be honest Minis (real ones anyway) are no longer a common sight on British roads, so we're getting a mixture of positive and negative attention, not to mention road rage incidents and the retarded chavs who wouldn't know a decent car if it ran them over.

So most of us don't care, because Mini driving is great fun and it's everyone else's loss if they've never experienced owning and driving one.

Well that's my opinion for what it's worth anyway.
