Hi All,
I'm sorry that this is my first post here! I'm more of an MR2 (Mk1) person myself! I've been lurking here for a while, inspired to do something with a Mini - particularly since I started doing Autosolos and seeing just how awesome Minis are at those!! :) A friend of mine here at Uni purchased a Mini a couple of years or so ago, with the intention of restoring and using it. Sadly she's now left the country and the car has been left with me - I had quite an interest in this car's restoration as well and was pushing her whenever I could to do something about it! LOL
Anyway, I now need to sell the car; I'd have absolutely loved to take the project over myself but I'm short on time as it is due to Uni, need to clear the space where it is, and can't keep it myself... When I have space though, I will be back!

Annnnnyway... We need to sell the car. As far as I know, it's been off the road for a few years... It's quite rusty and so will need a fair bit of work to get it back on the road. We've got the engine started, though it has the common (from what I've read on forums) seized clutch cylinder. I tried to free it off but had no luck with this... ;) So the engine runs, but it has no gears.

So, it needs to be sold. What's it worth? I don't know what mini's are worth at all, (though I've looked around this site and eBay a bit, so have an idea) and I'll concede that probably this one will be at the lower end... :o I'd like it if people more knowledgeable about these cars could help me out with this. I know what the value would be if it were an MR2, but this isn't! LOL! We could both do with the money (we're both students!) but would like this car to go to someone who will either sort it or use the bits from it...

It's not taxed or MOT'd and so will have to be moved on a trailer. The car is based in Bedfordshire.

The floor pan has been previously repaired, and annoyingly this clearly wasn't done very well as the repairs have rusted again... Grrrr. The entire boot floor will have to be replaced really. I believe the front sub-frame has some surface rust but is, for the most part fairly solid.

Hmmm, a picture tells a thousand words, eh?

The car:

The Boot (including a spare set of door handles!). This looks more of a mess than it is - there's plenty of good metal here and it's just surface rust. However, there's also a few holes so if it were me, I'd cut the whole thing out and replace it with the repair panel available...

Front and rear valances are rotten... :closed:

Floor pan just under the fronts of the doors:

There are some rust blisters under the rear window on drivers side I think, as well as on the bottom of both doors. Thus, we have outer skin repair panels for the doors:

These are brand new and unused. Ideally we'd like to recoup the cost of these at the very least!!! (I've seen they're around £46 on the Mini Spares site)

So... What would be a fair value to ask for?

I have more photos if they're any use... Much of the visible rust in the photos is surface only, but there is still quite a lot of work needed... :(

Cheers,
Max

Oh, I've just checked the V5 (I'm afraid it's the only documentation I have... ) and the engine is a 998cc. It's an Austin Mini Mayfair... If that helps! ;)

If you have the time, I think you will make far more money breaking it for parts. As it is......maybe £200-300ish

Thanks Scallywag. I thought as much, but I don't really have the time at the moment - Uni is taking that up. Plus, if my MR2 history is anything to go by, the parts will sit in a box somewhere for months till I get around to selling them... lol I'd much rather that if it is broken, an enthusiast (or many) gets the parts rather than just the scrapyard...

slyoldfox, you reckon it's worth putting on eBay as it is? I wasn't sure if that was the way to go or not...

Best of luck which ever way you go.
Into Mk1 MR2s? I used to be the largest used Japanese car importer in the late 90's and had a couple of Mk1 Supercharged MR2s. A standard model in Japan as the Turbo was on the Mk2.

Cheers.
Yeah, heavily into the Mk1 MR2s! I've got two - one an SC and the other an N/A. Sadly once I finish the engine rebuild the SC is probably going to have to go as well... :)
Really great, fun little cars, love the styling and wanted one since I was a kid (back then didn't know what they were, but loved the pop-up headlights. When I was hunting for one I found the car I fell in love with as a kid and had to buy it - that's the N/A! :) ). Yup, it's amazing how popular the supercharged ones were in Japan!
I'm wondering about the history of my SC actually - I believe it was one of the first imported into this country (having been imported in 1989) but don't know where to begin!

Back to the Mini... It's now on eBay. Don't know if that means this post should go, or what...
I'll probably chuck an ad in the classifieds. Would still like it to go to an enthusiast.

Would be a shame to break yet another mini though. With this scrappage scheme farce then there are quite a few being broken

Wasn't sure I was allowed to put the link in here too given this was for valuations. It's in the classifieds section, but the link is:

I agree, it would be a shame to break another car - seeing lots of this happening in the MR2 clubs too at the moment - only because they're worth more in parts than as a whole. Even relatively good ones are being broken up... :)

an admin or mod will move it if they deem so

just easier putting it in an already started thread in my eyes as it saves making another thread

I found the vehicle on ebay before noticing this thread...

I have it on my if it stays about the £200 mark I'd be interested list, any more and I would not be interested.

I'd be breaking it for spares.
