Yes - that should be fine. Take the chance to fit a better cam while you are in there!

Use the original primary gear as the A+ transfer gears are different.
As 'bmcecosse' says, a better cam such as the MG Metro or Kent 266 would be a good thing to do whilst it's in pieces.

thanks guys ive been planning this build for while but have had the cash (apprentice mechanic on little wages) so the spec:
kent 276 cam with duplex timing gear
12g295 head with 33 inlets 27exhaust been ported
striaght cut drop gear
28/36 webber
small bore lcb with rc40
flat top pistons in A+ block
a serise crank flywheel clutch set up
all rotating parts balanced (pressure plate and flywheel lightened)

proberly fogot somthing

dont bother with the webber just keep the su or upgrade to the hiff38 with the head you have i wouldn't go hiff44 but others do and works ok but i have found you lose a little bottom end power. you wont need straight cut drops for that spec but assume your going for the noise. 998cc straight cut drops are not cheap

I agree! Dump the ghastly Weber - and straight cut drop gears are a waste of money except for full blown race/rally engine. As many on here will know - I prefer the 940 head - but try the 295 since you have it! It will be fine.

already have a hif which works REALLY well but the webber was just a stand out from the crowd abit and the striaght cut drops i love the noise and if there going to cut down on transmision losses even better

thanks everyone robert

!0" wheels are what the car was designed with! Go for it. Final drive ratio is your choice - but for climbing up Shap.........

straight cuts dont really save any power losses unless they are the roller bearing ones which help a bit. they are just stronger and dont side load the cases. i know what ya mean about the noise tiss good.
