I think 8k are probably most like modern zenon lights like found on BMWs/Mercedes but possibly abit too much to get away with on a mini. At the end of the day your suppost to have washers, adjusting motors and probably a different lens to make them legal.

Looks like quite a nice kit, think i'll save that link...

Its a good job you get a choice of colours for the little mini angel eye bit, the blue looks abit too blue for me.

I've got angel eyes fitted at the moment, bet they'd look daft compared to the brightness of the little halo around the projector.

They do look awesome. But what hes fitted to get that isn't just a HID kit with projectors. Like he's said thats a bi-xenon projector retrofitted from another car. You can tell by the huge unit fitted behind the headlight.

I think even with the projector HID kit, you struggle to get light like that. He's also in the US, where lighting laws are pretty relaxed. Not sure if you could do that legally in the UK, it depends if that bi-xenon projector he's got has levelling motors, which it should do if i've got it right and thats come from another car with factory fit zenons.

Also an i right in thinking if you are using these projector style HID's, the lens of the light is then not needed. i.e. could be painted like he has done.

Although, just realized that the kit originally linked to in this thread is described as a bi-xenon projector kit. Hmm would be intresting to see if you get similar results.

I had a HID it on my previous car H4 bulbs, normal lights (not projectors..) no self levelling, no headlight washers..

Passed the MOT fine as the beam pattern was identical..

Yet to transfer the kit over to the mini..

maybe give it a go this weekend..

What the guy in that minifinity thread is saying though is that some HID kits (probably the £200 ones) make sure that the new HID element is perfectly central within the normal halogen lens, therefore giving the exact same beam pattern. The cheaper £50 HID kits probably don't ensure this and the HID must be slightly offset to one side, meaning the beam would be quite different.

with the UK law, it says something about them having to be self leveling etc...

but surely if you solid mounted them, there would be no need for self leveling? the self leveling thing seem to be a pain in the arse for other drivers anyway, going over a bump bounces the light then they self level and end up blinding who ever is in front until it settles.

I'd love to fit these on the mini, i'm quite tempted just to do it and see what happens at MOT.

I think its to do with if you've got people in the back, the front of the car will rise abit and point the lights higher. It does seem abit daft. To be honest i think if you've got those projectors fitted, the beam will be concentrated on the road, and you can just adjust headlamp aim to get them pointing where they need to go for the MOT.

this is the style I'm trying to work with - projector light with individual LED daytime 'running' lights around the perimeter.

That'll be nice. Are you planning on using aftermarket parts or parts taken from other cars?

That looks like a big job roofless, keep us posted matey!
on the subject of leveling motors, i dont think they're that important. My boss has an ancient BMW that has projector, but no autoleveling motors, JKC our local bmw specialist fitted hid's for him, no problems with MOT etc. so i figure it will be ok.

No way! Someone stole my idea! I had thought about this years ago when i first saw a Lupo GTi. Knew I should have done it sooner.
