I have the round nose mini with front drum brakes - i have successfully adjusted the back brakes but now was told the front brakes have two places to adjust them - I have a few mini specialits around me but wnt to charge R2000 just to adjust which i think is nuts. I was told its as easy as the rear. If someone could maybe send me a linkl or a step by step on how to do this it would be gladly appreciated.

how difficult could this be.

Thx

Not quite as easy as the rear because there's two front adjusters and one of them is quite tricky to get to. Have you got a brake adjusting spanner?

Also, they usually rust and get rounded off which makes it even more frustrating!

The front adjustment is not the same as the rear - where you wind the adjuster in and in over the 'humps' on the tapered shank. At the front the adjusters are 'snail' cams (with small square head) - and so you just turn them very slightly until the shoe rubs - and then slightly back until 'not quite rubbing'. As said -they can be seized - and the access is poor!

I've found you do have to adjust the front brakes so the shoes do rub, obviously not so much as you can't turn the wheel but so you can feel a bit of friction. Anything less and the brakes feel is horrible.
Its only the adjusting of them that temps me into fitting 7.5" disks, other than that the brakings fine when adjusted right.

Have to use an open ended spanner on the top adjuster cant get a proper square brake adjuster spanner on it.

Yes I have to agree with that. There should be a little drag, the wheel shouldn't simply spin freely. The only tricky part is getting both shoes on each brake adjusted to the same level.

Remember when i first started with minis age 17, first 2 minis had drum brakes, forever adjusting them (weekly basis) and if you pressed them hard the car would try and steer itself!! I decided to convert to discs and never had one since with drums!
