Please give your topic a title that quickly describes your problem. Just putting 'Help my Mini doesn't work' is useless to anyone trying to help.

Hello all,

Just a quick question. I am removing my engine tomorrow. Are there any non standard tools I will need?

Just asking so I can get them in advance.

Cheers,
Richard

one of the most annoying difficulties with mine was removing the driveshafts, make sure u have a decent lever/legth of flat bar to hoik them out.Having a good selection of imperial spanners and sockets is a must.

Ohh, and a good scissor type ball joint splitter. Recently did mine and it was a nightmare till I bought that. Just a tip, but tape ALL leads wires etc and clearly mark where they came from. Good luck

Thaks for your replies. I think I'll pick up a scisser type ball break (I have the fork type) as I'd rather not damage the ball joint.

Any more advice all greatfully recieved.

Are taking the engine out through the top, ie lifting it, or planning to just drop the subby and lift the body ver the engine?

Im lucky, I've got a forklift in my unit. I took it out through the top and it IS the best way. Just make sure you've undone EVERYTHING before you lift. Oh, and get a container for the oil when you seperate the pot joints!!! very messy otherwise.

Fork type is fine though sometimes splits the rubber - it won't damage the ball joint.

The only other thing I can think you'll need is a 5mm drift to knock out the roll pin in the gearchange.

If just taking the engine out (easiest way if only engine problem) then you will need a flywheel puller. Saves all that faffing about with ball joints, drive shafts and gearbox pins - just leave the box in the car!

you can actually take the engine out without splitting any of the ball joints at all! Juts takes a little patience and wiggling the engine from side to side to get the inner pot joints out!
