fitting 6 inch wheels makes the wheels stick out 3 inches more than what was designed

put very very simply the mini and it's suspension was designed with drum brakes and 4 inch wide wheels
fitting 6 inch wheels makes the wheels stick out 3 inches more than what was designed
My handling improved when i fitted 6 inchers though. Bizarre.

Not stricktly true, standard issue 6x10 revolutions have a 3.5" backface , which means a 2.5" front , poss offset of 12.5mm
your reply is too sweeping and too general ,i can build a 6" wide wheel with 50mm possitive offset, which is 25mm more than a standard 4" wide wheel,and 37.5mm more than the above revolution,
the word off set does not make a car handle badly,

It's how far set back the bolt holes of the wheel are compared to the outer rim (if that makes any sense...
)
No it doesnt make sense,offset is how far the mounting face of the wheel is set back or forward from the centreline of the wheel.Positive offset is where the mounting face is outwards of the centre line and negative is where the mounting face is inwards of the centre line.
Cheers Ross.
