Tax Exempt?

Afternoon All,

I need to know what the criteria is for a car qualifying as being Tax Exempt. Anyone know?

think 1972 and older is tax exempt

if the vehicle was manufactured (not registered) before 1973 ( i think it is the 1st of april 1973) then it is tax exept

A mechanic once tried to blag to me that once a car is over 25 years old, It will become tax exempt. I think he got it wrong and meant it had to be manufactured before 73. Not sure tho.

it used to be if it was 25 years or more then it was changed so i have been told

Yeah the rule changed.... maybe it will change again, my car is a 74 also, all i got to do is prove it was built beofre that date in 73

It's 1st Jan 1973.

My car was registered in Feb 1973 so I missed out.. :lol:

Although my other clubbie is 1971.. all the more reason to get it on the road :grin:

It isn't actually the date of first registration, its the date of manufacture.

Sam, your car may well have been manufactured before December 31st 1972, in which case it will qualify for tax exemption. The best thing to do is contact Heritage and give them your VIN number, they should be able to tell you when it rolled off the production line.

(oops, just noticed Minimole put that too, sorry for repeating!)

yup its strange that, well either way it doesnt matter to me - but my log book states my Clubby was manufactured in 1969 but it is a H Reg which is either 70 or 71 cant remember...

i think it was when our nice mr blair got in that the rules changed, and dont think it will go to 25 or older until labour is kicked out
