I'd start in mighty's for sure. Your looking at £18,000 for the first season, excluding car to be competitive. After that it obviously gets cheaper and cheaper, with sponsors etc, but your still looking at around £7000 per season.

I know most of the mighty mini chaps and can tell you that to race competitively (in a front running car) you can be on a budget as low as £10,000 for the first season including car (around £6000, equivalent mini 7 is at least £10,000)

if i were you i would build a hill climb car

the spec is cheaper, you can drive it home afterwards (as long as you don't crash it), fuel, tyres ETC will last longer and you can both race it

The front running Miglias are built almost to 'Touring Car' standards of preparation and were costing £30,000+ before paying for season running costs and repairs and that was nearly 10 years ago when my brother was still racing having moved up from the cheaper Se7ens.

Often forgotton.........but a good place to start and gain experience in Mini motorsport at a cheaper cost is Minicross racing:

You can even 'Hire' a Minicross car for a day to see if you like it........... :-

thats a really good idea renting a car to gain exp. if you dont get anyone that wants to do it with you, i think the hill climb could be your next option its cheaper and as minivan says as long as you dont crash it you can drive home.

I would say start off with a bit of hillclimbing,it will give you a chance to build the car to a reasonable budget and find out if you enjoy it/are any good at it.Also if you are just starting out, theres only your own car out there to mash.

Think I will be doing the odd trackday and hillclimbing in mine to get a bit of experience before going any further.

Cheers Rosco.
