I have searched and found many topics on this subject and tried everything i could find.
So i've had to resort to starting another topic.

After getting one side out i can't get the other to budge.
It is the passenger side that is causing me touble.
Now i have tried.

-Levering against bolt on diff casing with a crowbar, whilst levering getting my dad to hit the joint also hitting the end of the bar.
-Bolster chisel (which actually popped the drivers side out easily).
-Pot joint removal tool.

I have also tried the tool with a bit of packing to make it push the joint out further.
After over a week of trying i've run out of ideas.

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Tim

They don't usually put up a fight, as they're bathed in engine oil.

You're try to compress the split ring retainer so maybe a bit of all round hammer attention will help to free it up in it's groove?

If the pot is shot (I is a poet! :- ) how about drilling the centre so you can use a gear puller through the hole?

Drilling the hole may be even harder though.

Cheers for the reply Ethel.
I was pretty shocked myself at it being so difficult the drivers side just popped of nicely.
Tried a bit of hammer action maybe some extensive working tomorrow will solve it.
I'm getting worried that maybe the previous owner used a square clip and with the flat edge in the pot it has no tendancy to compress.
The pot is getting replaced but I don't think i've got anything that will man enough to drill through it.
And i'd be a bit worried about damaging the output shaft.
Been trying to think of some way to use a slide hammer but can't think of anything to grip too.

Getting increasingly worried that all of this can't be too good for the casing.

There's a bit about this in March's Mini world mate. Thier expert says that pot joints can be difficult to lever out but you can try splitting the joint by removing the boot and then remove the inner part of the pot joint on the bench

I just need to get the outer casing of the pot joint out of the diff casing.
Should have said, I have already removed the boot and the innards with the driveshaft.
The engine is still in the car if i can't find any solution it's going to have to come out i guess.
Cheers

Tap the joint back in towards the diff, then with a hammer and a drift give it a good whack all the way around (away from the diff), that should shift it.

Will have another good go at it first thing tomorrow when visibility is a bit better.
Lots of hitting the joint seems to be order the day.
Any other techniques to try tomorrow will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you to all that have posted so far. :-

All your trying to acheive is to get the c clip which is on the diff output shaft, out of the groove in the joint, so you need to "shock" it over the clip.

Also try and tap the outside of the pot whilst turning it round to see if the clip will centralise on the shaft.

Yeah i think you're right i've probably been paying too much attention to trying to get the pot out where i should be concentrating on making sure that clip is free to move and centralised to give it the best chance of compressing.
Although i tried tapping it out turn, repeat. as i was tapping outwards i guess it holds the clip off to one side.
Thanks tomorrow is looking slightly more hopeful.

Use the tool, give it a tap, turn 15 degrees, tap, turn, tap, turn, etc, etc. Get the tool in as far as you can to start with too but pull it back every time you turn the joint to allow the clip to relax.

I've tried everything above and had absolutely no luck.
It makes no sense that it can be this tight and i can only think that the wrong type of clip has been used on the output shaft.

Something definitely isn't right as when i put the removal tool in there is no resistance at all holding it until it's way past resting on the bolt i've made a shim to help this but it's still not helped. Also i have about 1/16" to 1/8" of play back and forth.

Any more ideas?

Can't suggest anything other than a longer lever!

Cheers mate.
Thought that would be the answer.
Just have to keep trying.
