Hello,

I introduced myself and my two daughters in the "Introductions" forum. We have bought a 1971 Cooper S Mk3,
which needs a little work. The first event that we are competing in will be the Scally Rally -Mille Miglia Challenge,
which takes place at the end of June this year.

Here are some pictures that show how the car is at the moment. Most of the work will be done by Steve Harris of
Harris Motorsport and Pete Styles of Spire Minis.

I know it's not like some of the massive projects that appear in this forum, but I hope you will be interested to see
the pictures anyway.

The previous owner had a slight "off" at Castle Combe and I think he went backwards into the tyre wall.
You can see that there is a bit of damage, but nothing structural, as far as we can tell.

Steve has taken the engine out and he will rebuild it. The original cylinder head has some issues with a couple of
the valve seats, so that will need to be sorted. The gearbox is in good shape, except a slightly loose selector fork
which will need replacing.

We will post some more pictures in due course.

Regards

Ok - there has been a bit more progress with the engine - it is starting to go back together, and it is being painted in the traditional green. Block has been primed, ready for it's green coat !

We are hoping to have the finished car on display at the DEWS day at the beginning of May.
All of the arch areas have been coated with some protection, and some of the new brake parts have been fitted.

The car is going to the body-shop in about 10 days to have the rear damage sorted.

This is how the gearbox looked when it was apart and was being cleaned up.

We are going to have a lower final drive fitted so that it will cruise on the motorways a bit better.

Looks great.

Has the rear damage creased the qtr panel too? Looks like you got away with not damaging the fuel tank?

Thanks Ted & Craig.

Yes - there is a small crease, but the bodywork man is very confident that it will be fine once he has worked on it !!

I will post some pictures when it has been sorted and painted.

Thanks very much for all the kind comments.

OK - the engine is now fully built and will be going back into the car today. I am expecting it to run as sweet as a nut, on Steve Harris' rolling road, and we are still planning to be at the Downton Engineering Works Social Club day next Saturday, where there will be a lot of Minis on display. http://www.bjautobit...ws-calendar.htm

(The rocker cover will be tidied up at a later date)

It's a race against time to be ready in time to get to the Downton Engineering Works Social Club show, this Saturday !! That was always the target for the car, as there will be a lot of Classic minis there.

The engine is back in, and the car is now on the road - today it went off to the bodyshop to have the damage at the back repaired....

It also needs a new MOT, having been off the road for a while.
