Ok so I have a bad history with mobile phones and drowning them, crushing them and just generally breaking them. So I was very curious when I saw an advert today for a 'Land Rover S1' mobile phone. So I have been searching for it online and it supposedly came out last June/July (2009) yet I have never heard of it before. So my question is has anyone else heard of this phone or even got one?

Failing that can anyone recommend a similar kind of phone?

Thats the phone I saw advertised.

Thanks for any help,
Dan

and came out with the best one

worth a hunt for that episode if it can be found

JCB have a phone
but I think a good one to go for is one my dad used to have for work , they got them because as builders they used to break them all the time, will be quite cheap aswell
The Nokia 5140 , it is water/shock proof and way cheaper than the Land Rover phone i'm guessing

I'm a telephone engineer and have been using a Sony Ericsson K750i for a few years. It takes a beating every day, being dropped, rattling round in a bag of tools, seeing dirt and water regularly but still soldiers on without batting an eyelid and has outlived any other phone I've ever had.

I know it's not built as a 'tough' phone but it certainly is in my eyes.

lol, cant believe youve had a k800i for 2 1/2years! i had one and afta 2 month the main control buton packed in n then it got wet as i rang sum1 in the rain n packed in. i now have a nokia 6303c and it seems tough as hell. its been dropped in a bucket of water i couldnt reach the bottom of and it fell off the scaff from 2nd floor n just bounced. the only thing i do use are screen protectors (clear film to suit mobile screens available on ebay) and i luv em because all mobile screens seem to scratch really easy. this way i get a shiney new screen every month!

K800 no, the camera cover falls off and the control stick stops working properly, k750 definitely, solid as a rock!! Or even the old k700, cant remember how sturdy it was though...

Thanks for the replies! I had a K750 and broke the centre button/joy stick thing. But it did last me about 12 months :D

I will see what others I come across. The Land Rover one comes with a 3 year unconditional warranty which might be worth while, and make it worth it, but still 84 pounds a year and thats only if I kept the phone for 3 years.

Will have more of a look tomorrow at some of the phones suggested.

Thanks,
Dan

whatever you get mate, get sum screen film covers (i got 10 for a £8). i cant stress how much i love em. iv binned fones before because i couldnt read the screen. using these, i put a new 1 on every maybe 6-8 weeks as im a joiner/builder so gets some heavy abuse and its sound. oh and nokia every time for me lol, but thats probs just personal preference

edit, i ment 10 for £8 lol n not 8 for a tenner

I think it was the Landrover phone, a guy was on BBC as the manager of the phone company and asked the news presenter to try his hardest to break the phone. Dunked it under water in a fishtank and it still rang. Then smashed it on the side of the tank and it broke in 3 hits, the manager was VERY embarrassed........
