As said above the old Nokia is very strong well made and cheap. All the buiders liked them. You can get extra rubber cases for them and the insides are in a metal case.

I worked for a land remediation company which used the Nokia 5140 and they seemed to be pretty indestructable. I regularly used to drop mine in muddy puddles from fairly decent heights and apart from a few scratches it was fine.

I found the Nokia 3310/3330 range to be quite good, although the buttons started to break down after a good few years.
Next in line was the 6230i - it got used & abused and still worked well although the case wore down very quickly (was interchangeable)... Before my upgrade once in a blue moon she wouldn't vibrate on some calls but she lasted me a life time.

Thanks for the reply's. I had a look at the land rover phone today, quite bulky and was 299 pounds. Also it is quite a large phone. I will have another look at the weekend.

Thanks,
Dan

That "Landrover S1" is made by Sonim. Samsung makes the B2700, B2100, and M110 toughphones. The B2700/2100 are capable of being submersed in 3 meters of water for a half hour and still come out working fine. I own a Nokia 5500 Sport and it is in the "rugged phone" class. The body of my 5500 Sport is Stainless Steel/Rubber. I bought it used for 20 quid and it is SWEET! I included some photos of it.

Is it water proof? I see it has a torch too!

It is "Splashproof/dustproof" but isn't able to be submerged. You could talk on it in a pretty heavy rain with no worries. But I wouldn't swim with it. Lol. Yep! It has a torch on it....so does the Samsung B2700/2100 models.

Actually the JCB phone is the same phone as the Landrover branded one. They are both made by Sonim and they aren't British.....they are Canadian.

Hey,

My boyfriend's got a Land Rover phone. He's a Scouting, Sailing, 4x4ing, shooting bod so asked for a LR phone for his birthday. Low and behold, he got one.

We've had conversations with the phone sitting in a pint of water, he's run it over in his LR 90, thrown it out of a window and the list goes on. So far, it really has been unbreakable.

:)

Nokia 6230i its been stabbed, shot, smacked, punched, dropped, thrown (when in my chect pocked I may add) and even ended up in lake Como in Italy for twenty minutes until I found it!!

Still works fine and cheap as chips to pick up used. All accessories are really cheap too even the nokia stuff.

my friend had one of the JCB ones, got it off ebay cheap because it had a software problem, then sent it to the manufacturer (sonim) and they replaced it for him (free except £20 postage i think)
i dont think he ever managed to break it
