I have a 1994 Rover Sprite that has been rebored to 1293. I am planning on overhauling the ignition system - new coil, leads, dizzy cap, rotor arm, plugs - but am unsure which type of coil i would need. I'd like to get an uprated one, but it seems that their are different types depending on what type of ignition system your car uses. I'm pretty sure that i don't have a condenser, and i know that i needed an ignition module replacing earlier this year (hope this gives some clues). Oh yeah, there are no ECU's or anything like that involved :goaway:. Any advice would be much appreciated.

The quality of current available coils has been a bit of an issue for some time.
The ideal coil used to be a 'Lucas Sports 12V', but I had a couple over the last 2 years which have failed quite quickly frm new. In the end I went to the local motor factors and bought a cheap standard 12v one off-the-shelf and it seems fine.
There is an American comnpany called 'Pertronics'(?) who make a ceramic-filled coil which is suppposed to be the DB's, but they are very expensive, like £65+ each.
On one of my Minis, which still has a Lucas Sports coil, I carry a spare with me, just in case.

The part number for the Lucas Sports Coil is DLB105 - I've got a spare too (never know)

I looked at one place that was selling the DLB105 but it said that it was for pre 1986 minis. This is what has lead to my confusion. Some are for with and without ballast (whatever that means).

So will the Lucas sports coil work with any mini?

As you are running electronic ignition you will only need a normal coil - a sports coil won't improve anything.

Spend the money on better leads & plugs along with a new cap and rotor. I only run a std 12v coil with my aldon and tuned 1330.
