
Diesel In Mini

Hi my mate has put diesel in is 998c mini city he realised after getting it ome then drained the diesel out filled back up with petrol then fresh plugs in it sounds terrible it now idles very low alot of black smoke comes out of the exhaust any tips or advise for him thanks. And please dont state the obvious like dont put diesel in haha. Worst thing is hes just had a new coil carb and distributor fitted

clean out the fuel line and carb, it could be that the car is burning off the last of the diesel

It needs to be flushed properly it seems like there is still some in there like suggested

change the fuel filter aswell if there is one in the lines
also refill the tank back up with petrol he myt of had a bit more diesel in it still.....shouldnt of done any damage because at the end of the day diesel is only an oil, as said theyl still be some diesel in the tank/lines/carb

Err actually quite easily. If your daily driver is a diesel and you pick up the wrong pump without realising it, it's easy enough to do. Minis don't have those new style petrol tanks where only one type of fuel pump fits.

he's done the right thing draining the tank and refiling
a little desil in a tank full wont hurt, just go a bit easy. the current smoke is probably what is left in the carb and fuel lines as mentioned,
just leave it running for a bit untill all the desil is used up.

Thanks for the help i will pass it on. He drives a x5 through the day he was talking wen he got out of the car so he just grabbed the diesel nozzle
