Hi, just bought a dashboard 2nd hand, not sure if it's genuine or not, but having major problemos trying to fit it! Been at it for a few hours now..

Where do the brackets attach?

Do you need to take out the sort of cradle that the speedometre and stuff was sitting in?

Do all dashboards fit all minis (assuming all minis are actually slightly different)? This one was in a clubman before I think and I have a mk4

Any one local to Hindhead/Haslemere and fancy giving me a hand? :(

Thanks! Saoirse

Not sure which dash you got so bear with me. If you got any pictures of the back of the dash you bought and some of your current dashboard then that'll help, the new one may have been fettled with by the last owner, did you get any brackets with this one?

Is this the cradle you mean? If so then yes it needs to come out, access to the bolts are in the engine bay on the bulkhead, your speedo cluster will need to be screwed into your dash direct, don't use screws that are too long though

Your new dash should have these fittings, three of them, left right and center

These are the brackets that are held in place by the top/bottom of the dashrail, last owner may have kept these for his new dash, though you get these with new ones anyway.

The top sections of the brackets point towards you so therefore they sit in the dashrails so the dash is then secured with the wing nuts.

If you aint got these then you could make some up, not difficult but dont use anything light as when you tighten the wing nuts it'll just bend, but make sure you got the fittings on the dash first!

Ok, got the bracket removed.

Heres what the dash looks like:

I only have two brackets on the dashboard, here's what that looks like:

And another thing is this end doesn't seem to fit like the other end, is there some way to loosen the top padded dash rail thing? (sorry for lack of correct terminology  )

"The top sections of the brackets point towards you so therefore they sit in the dashrails so the dash is then secured with the wing nuts." - whereabouts do the wing nuts secure it to?!

I am such a noob! haha, thank you for your help!

With some exploration i see where the wing nuts go.

The dash seems to be wider than the space provide (like quite a lot wider) should I just try and budge it in?

Also, shall I just take the wirse for the radio up one of the holes in the back?

Fitting other peoples already fiddled with dash is not always fun

You can attach yours, lift up the dash carpeted area and you should see where the brackets should bolt into

Not sure whats going on with them two center brackets on yours though?

Check out this link aswell, bottom of page 2 for the usual securing brackets

Clicky

Try sending chrisgonz1 a PM with your pictures and he should let you know if his brackets will fit yours as the space looks tight

I have the older type of dash board except it has 5 dials in the middle and two pockets either side and I'm not sure how to secure it in the photo it has been wedged in if you like to hold it there but I know that's not how it is supposed to sit

A company called Custom Consoles sell the brackets to fit your dash. They attach to the dash then clip behind the rails & tighten up. Simple to use. Can't see them on their website now but would be worth a call to them.

Hi saoirse, the dash you have got is for an MPi car so unless your car is an MPi the fixing holes may not be already there on your car, could be drilled though if not already there.
