Is anyone running it with ballasted ignition? Lrostoke is right that you will need a separate (12v) supply to the module so the coil still gets just 9v via the ballast wire. Do that and it ought to work with a ballasted coil but some confirmation from someone with real world experience would be good.
Try increasing the plug gap by 5-10thou to get the full benefit, you might also need slightly less advance - see how it runs first.

Will be running it with the standard non-ballast ignition so I'll see how that goes. Might have to pop out and borrow a timing light though.
Thanks for the advice

Yes fitted it to a 1989 and 1990 mini both ballasted kept original coils, just did the seperate 12v supply for the ignition module, thousands of miles covered by both. Trouble free.

would this be classed as a modification an hav to b declared on ur insurance? will it make a difference on price?
cheers
It is technically a modification but I doubt it would need to be menctioned as its wouldn't make a difference in the vehicle's value.
Personally I wouldn't as I don't see there is any need - correct me if I am wrong.

Insurers don't really assess your car for its value, they mainly assess it for its risk. Anything that is non standard you should tell them about, it probably won't affect the premium at all but you must tell them.

Irostoke, what happen if I fit a late 65D electronic distributor to a ballasted Mini? Should I make a new 12v connection to the ignition module too?
Sorry somebody else will have to answer that, like the pink writing at the top says only answer what you know or have experience of
