Hey guys, was thinking of fitting a stage 3 head to my spi, how much of a difference would it make in terms of power increase? would it be noticeable!

And would a LCB Manifold what difference would that make as well.

Cheers

And the answer to your question yes it would make a differance, when i started tinkering with my 1275 i put a stage2 head and 1.5 rockers on this was after the usual stage1 exhaust and k&n and it flew.

We see around 15-20bhp increase with our heads and our stage 1 kit. With a good rolling road tune.

You will definatly see a difference.

Hey Pete, yeah think its a John Cooper S conversion, are they quite rare? i didn't even know they made a S in the 90s :)

Will probably go for a stage 3 then and some 1.5 rockers

i was thinking of a stage 3 head and a few other things for my spi too, was looking at your company actually! what exactly can you set up on an spi on the rolling road though? there isnt fuel mixture, ignition advancing/retarding to worry about, is it just the timing? or am i missing a hole lot of stuff?

sorry to hijack the thread!

Your right there is not a huge amount you can do to be honest with an spi... a better head will improve it and the ecu should change itself as best it can to suit, after that you really need to be looking at a fully mappable ecu like megasquirt or DTA.

If you have a cooper s conversion it's already got a "stage 3" head on it from minisport. Your engine wont be made to have much more power than it does with this setup without some serious money being spent.

Chances are that your head is in need of a rebuild. Once rebuilt with the valves sealing properly you'll notice a big difference

Had a Stage 3 with 1.5 rockers and Maniflow LCB fitted at Minisport last summer to 1996 SPi. Rolling road showed we went from 50 to 74 BHP at the wheels, so performance much improved - and a really fruity exhaust note as well! can hear the car all over the valley - magic! Added to negative camber arms, car is something else, and enormous fun. Now, need to fix the buggered synchro...
