Hi all,

Today I made a massive breakthrough.

Ive got my SPI mini working perfect for the first time since owning it (3 years).

Had major problems with it overfueling and generaly running rough on cold and hunting when warm. I replaced everything injection wise besides the loom and ECU. Lambda sensors, temp sensors, s/h injector and 3 diagnostic tests. It was overfueling so much it was burning the cat out.

Well today I sent my ECU into a local MG Rover specialist to have a look to see if it was that, and it was! Apparently it was a lamda switch fault, got it back this afternoon fully repaired and it now idles nice and cold and doesn't small like a BP station anymore.

Well chuffed .

Here lies the advantage of a carb. One twist with a screw driver and you can sort it out.

£75+VAT

Best of british car spares in darlaston West midlands, they may do it by post. They dont specialise in minis but have the test rigs and facilitys for testing and repair.

Just to have it tested is £25+vat but if it shows faults and needs repairing they will waver the test fee and just charge £75+vat

I would say to them to have a diagnostics first, find someone with a proper fault reader and not a code reader, where they can monitor sensors and see what the engines actualy doing in real time. If its come out clean then take the ECU route. But I think the ECU is the only componment which is not tested in a diagnostic test.

I would of said the same thing about carbs, dont get me wrong theres more you can do with carbs and I would choose carbs over injection anyday, but for an everyday setup they are great (now ive actualy driven a working one ).

Injections are fantastic when they work right, but its when it goes wrong.
