On the passenger side of my engine bay there is a connection to what i believe is the purge control valve, the only thing is that the wires that are supposed to fit into it just hang loose (one is black and the other white).

So, does anyone know the name of the wiring connector plug thing that i am lacking that should plug into the cylindrical holes on the valve and be connected to the black and white wires?

Don't quite understand what you are getting at

The purge valve is just a solenoid so requires a ground (Black) and a posative (white fed from the ecu)

I know what you mean mate, i'll try and find out later when i get home!! how long has it been like that? Who would just cut the connector off?? Wierd.....

AFIK, if it plugs into the small cylindrical connector, under the purge valve, and besides the fan connector - thats for the dim/dip ballast resistor


If you really wanted to, you could just use bullet connectors

now that you mention it, mine is not connected either

what exactly is the reason for the purge control valve

it lets the engine suck air through the charcoal cannister, which stores the fumes from the fuel tank whilst the engine's off

it only opens "under certain conditions" according to Haynes, so I'm guessing at anything above idle!


I suppose there wouldn't be any harm to simply have it on with ignition, although it may increase the idle speed slightly

I once left mine disconnected for about 20 miles before I remembered to reconnect it (along with the wipers!)

didnt have any obvious side-effects?

I recon you can get the exact plug from demon tweeks. I got some for the spot lamps and look almost identical. I'll check it out tomorrow.

The plug comes in a kit with both male and female parts and also the terminal pins and seals.

I don't see an charcoal canister anywhere in my engine bay either. This could be why I have a strong fuel odor after the car sits a while?

Slimer, the canister is actually under the offside wing!!! you'll only see it if you look up under the wheel arch..

The purge valve is in the engine bay which is what you can see in the photo. it should have a tube or maybe 2 tubes which go through the inner wing into the wheel arch.....

Just check out Demon Tweeks and found this connector..... i would say that Mini Sprocket is right looks like the one...

'Certain conditions' pretty much means only when the engine is in high speed over-run and at proper operating temperature. It will open at some other times but that's basically it.

Slimer, the canister is actually under the offside wing!!!

...and only on injection cars. If you don't have injection you shouldn't have one so don't worry about it.
