The tyre size is a lot more relevant than the rim size!

165/60r12, Yoko A539's

Sorry, just thought the tyre size would be the same for rims of that size and I was just being lazy not going out to the car in the cold!

my general rule of thumb is 28 at the front 26 at the rear.

I'd probably try 26 all round to start with on those 165/60 R12s. Or maybe 28 as I'd imagine they are slightly stretched onto a 6" rim.

Wow that's way too high. 165/70 R 10 tyres on a Mini should be at 24 front 26 rear really but you can work from that to find a pressure you are happy with. Yes it affects handling, it affects everything. Your car must feel like it has power steering! Are you not wearing the tyres in their centres?

I was writing some really technical explanation then and thought feck it...

The front of your car is heavier than the back, therefore you need more air ( higher pressure ) in the front than the rear for the same contact patch for the tyre. The higher the pressure the smaller the contact patch...

This is why over inflated tyres wear on the middle of the tyre, and under inflated tyres on the outside.

What you want to obtain by pumping up your tyres is the optimum pressure to provide the optimum tyre contact patch on the road.

You could go into the complexities of corner weight, tyre design and pressures, but it's not really worth the effort.

nope the tyres dont seam to be affected by the pressure. i think thats the size anyway as i usto have 13"s on my car and as i havnt changed the tyres on my wheels i havnt paid much notice the the new size. bit of a nice thing as i useto scrub out tyres on my 13"s every 2 wheels. and oops ill have a look at my pressure.
but the tyres have lasted for ages sofa! and the stearing isnt much lighter then when i had my 13"s

Try 28 front 26 rear as a starting point, wont be far wrong. Its personal preference from there
