Hi all,

I've seen these lucas yellow deflector lenses on a few minis and really like the look. I asked my local garage about them and they said they were for driving in other countries to deflect the normal beam onto the other side of the road. If this is the case surely you would get pulled for having them on your car in this country. Can anyone shed some light on the subject please.

Thanks DC

I use these, had no problems with them. I do however take them off during the winter and MOT time!

Do you ever use them with your lights on? I will be using them pretty much how you described. Just wondered what the idea behind them was.

i used to have a mini that i used the yellow headlight paint on. those deflectors will throw the beam the other way for use abroard but the paint just colours the lense.

Yeah they throw the light on the other side of the road, for driving on the... er... other side of the road around mainland Europe. I use them with my lights on and have had no problems... all my friends can tell it is me from a mile away with the rumble of the exhaust and the mellowness of the yellow...ness.

Beam deflectors don't usually get the beam to replicate the LHD pattern, that would be a massive change and need a fairly complex lens. What they tend to do is block out the section that will cause glare to oncoming drivers if they dip the wrong way. In effect they don't make your lights dip the other way, they just reduce the dipped beam output. So you won't be causing glare to anyone which would be illegal.
